He should have been fired when he referred to an Asian players shirt number as "that'll be Chicken Chow Mein then" (or something similar) The man's a fat bigoted mess. I turn off if he comes on, I can't stomach the fella and his awful drone.
I don't believe he said it anyway but if you were listening to him on the radio 12 years or so ago and heard him say it, why didn't you ring in and tell him how wrong he was? At 17 he was turned down by Arsenal, Barcelona and us .. fools that we were, but hindsight is a great thing.
Arsenal didn't turn him down they couldn't afford him, Wenger has even said he was desperate to sign him, but with the building of there new stadium they couldn't pay the money. We didn't get him cheap, 12 million pounds about 13 years ago, which was alot more money back then than it is these days in football. So it's not suprising teams where put off by the price. So I don't think it was a case of either yourselves of Barca turning him down, as you both showed an interest in signing him. It was more a case of you not being prepared to pay the money, or not being able to afford the money Lisbon wanted. Don't forget Barca had just bought Ronaldinho. The comments about him not making it where made alot later than that though, when he'd already shown everyone how good he was in the Premier League
i heard his wage demands was more than we was prepared to pay as well, esp for an unproven teenager, prob put a few clubs off. obviously your gain though. just think, we turned down Ronaldo and Bale ffs
Bale turned us both down to go to Spurs, must have been so he didn't have to move up north and away from his family when he was still only a teenager
Wenger said at the time they couldn't agree terms with Lisbon and that Ronaldo was special but didn't score goals, so they went for Reyes at £17m.
C.Ronaldo was reportedly offered to us for just £5m but Parry didn't think it was worth the risk #twat
We were on the verge of Signing Bale from Spurs prior to them getting injury problems. 'Arry played Bale at LM as a stop gap and the rest, as they say, is history. He'd been linked with a loan move to Nottm Forest just before being linked to us too
Yeah I seem to remember Spurs trying to offload him when he was really young, I think Birmingham where also linked strongly with him, but they wouldn't pay the 3 million Spurs wanted. What a mistake that was
