Beatles were more pop than rock but they certainly did cross over into Rock (and other genres) they were a very versatile group.
There early stuff was pop, they then progressed to psychedelic and Rock, as a group they never returned to pop music except when they finally split up.
Has country influences but I wouldn't call it country. Now the rolling stones have a very country sounding song... Forget it's name but was very convincing sounding- they pulled it off better than most country acts.

The Beatles were as much influenced by country music as black soul and blues. John Lennon introduced the harmonica into the early stuff directly influenced by country singer Carl Perkins, or so it goes. Misery, Ask Me Why and There's A Place [on debut album Please, Please Me] all have country feel.
I read they were also heavily influenced by the Everly Brothers and based a lot of their early sound on them. (can certainly hear it in their style). The Everly Brothers were themselves very country oriented rock and roll singers.

Think many fans in the North of England might have felt antipathy towards the British National anthem in the 80s after the wreakage of Thatcher's reign. And who can blame the Scots for booing the "British" anthem. "Flower of Scotland" is far superior to the National anthem which seems to be the song sung by the Chavs.
I enjoy listening to Alan Green. Probably because of his humour and acerbic remarks when what he is watching is patent rubbish. He comments as he sees it.
He commented as he saw it in a game at OT once, when Lord Buckfast was informed Green was banned from commentating on Utd home games and the BBC never had the guts to object.
Alan Green is a tool. He seems to take no enjoyment from football (perhaps because he's a Liverpool fan!). I know a very nice girl who used to be his 606 producer. She tried to say nice things about him but gave up! I think Green's greatest achievement is being the man who said Ronaldo would never make it as a top level footballer as he was a circus act. I believe his nickname for him was Skippy the Kangaroo. No Page, I don't have links to quotes, it was stuff he said on the radio.
Thing is Stan if you were asked about Fergie's character I'm sure you wouldn't be as negative, me and you argue like **** on here(sometimes)but we still communicate, can't understand why Fergie never had an open debate as to where he thought Green was wrong with what he'd said instead of cowardly banning him from OT. As Ides said Green tells it like it is, maybe he should stick to written football "journalism" then yourself and others won't have to read his thoughts, but you could have actually chosen not to listen to the radio 5(formerly radio 2)commentaries then you wouldn't have been so upset.
