They may have made enquiries and the club told them he was unavailable?

I agree that the move projects an image of a youth set-up that seems to lack either ambition or the ability to further an ambition for it's development players. It will be interesting to see what happens with Townsend at the end of the month, as it might well be the case that he is being sent out to gain more match-time prior to playing a bigger role in the senior squad - or, more likely, Bruce is greasing the rails for his exit. When it comes to folk clamouring for Bruce to use development players more, I'd be interested in knowing where and when, as I believe he is struggling to incorporate first team larkers?
Perhaps the quality of the loan - I agree it is an odd choice - is more to do with the frequency of games he might play in. We'll soon find out.

I think this might be nearer the mark.

May be we don't put enough effort into establishing and maintaining contacts with lower division managers. This could work better for us in both getting players out on loan and possibly identifying early lower division players who could come in and make the grade with us.

Thought I remembered him scoring a bunch after he left us last year...a few games where he scored 2 or 3...must be mistaken.

He scored two in one game (against Bromley), but that's the only game he scored in.

Poor old Matt Glennon. That's 6 he's had to pick out his net so far.

He won't mind. Gets a sip of his Bacardi breezer each time.

Looks like Ferriby will be heading to Stalybridge in their attempts to reach the first round proper of the FA cup.

Townsend played the full game for Grimsby last night. 7-0 win not bad and yet still some of the cod heads moan about manager Paul Hurst.

I wonder if we could offer Townsend and Luer to Brownie/Southend "ON LOAN" as part of any possible Daniel Bentley deal that may happen ?

It looks like Grimsby want to extend Conor's loan.

Does seem a bit strange that Conor obviously isn't in SB plans, even though he has done well in the U21's and seems to be starred in Grimsby games and did well from all accounts on loan up in Scotland. Looks as if his days are numbered.

Bruce effectively said as much in the summer. He said that when he took over there were no youngsters anything like as good as Luer, Dixon, Jahraldo etc. Townsend will have been 19 or 20 then.

Didn't we extend his contract though, seems rather contradictory.

In June 2015 Townsend signed a 1-year contract extension.
