I'm not really fussed that they mention Liverpool. Its no conspiracy, just an immersion technique. The author is trying to make the piece relevant to the readers by mentioning his clubs (ours is the biggest so is mentioned the most). It is a technique to draw you, Mr. Reader into the piece- because Liverpool means something to you.
