desperate people will believe anything that satisfy their unrealistic ambitions LVG had a class on him when he first came, yet you will never seen any UTD fan jumping up celebrating like improvement is in the pack after 1.5 years, was he any improvement over Moyes? tbh with resources he had, i would say NO problem with UTD we are building a new team, that will take time, regardless of any manager which will come unless he has huge money pumped in (like Jose had in his first season), the changes will not be that big, take into your account that a new manager will even want to build a team that fit his style better, so sure it will take time, even Sir Alex the best manager in PL history had to wait really many years to make things moving forward. many try and errors in the process till he get things right. Klopp is not the first manager that came to PL with great reputation just to fail, the list is long, aside from Jose, who else did succeeded? AW? well his CV was average tbh in France, even Jose himself, his success deepened more on spending & spending big, a resource that Klopp don't have.
I would suggest that the reason most United supporters weren't celebrating the appointment of van Gaal is that he's a pretty underwhelming appointment. Added to this the fact we were clearly in need of a boost after Ferguson leaving and Moyes making a pigs ear of things then no one was exactly going to be jumping up and down, regardless of who we got. Liverpool's situation is completely different. They've put up with **** for years and Klopp is an enormous improvement on anything and anyone they've had for a long time. I can see why there is optimism. Trying to prove and disprove something that hasn't yet happened is pointless in my opinion. You really do not know how it'll turn out. Unless of course you do. In which case can I have Wednesday's lottery numbers please?
well let us not forget how they were so close of winning it 2 seasons ago, can Klopp get as close? only time will tell
Van gaal was a huge name at the time who's reputation was far, far higher than Klopps is today. One who nearly relegated the only other German side of note, the other who took Holland (have you seen them these days) to a world cup semi final... Somehow. Both have recent German league and cup success and both had recent CL finals on their CVs I suspect United fans were more excited than they were 12 horrible months before when we made that appointment. Van gaal was a huge name, the biggest name available at the time. He's a bigger name than Klopp is too, though they are both at opposite ends of their careers. Obviously this will be seen as another case of 'uir loves lvg... Yawn' but it was an exciting appointment. The RS get giddy about the likes of Rodgers, so Klopp, who is a great manager, will have them falling over themselves. Of course, Rafa was a better manager than Klopp at the time he became Liverpool manager and that turned out to be a great period for football, bar the fluke of course.
Never. Who are they selling for £50+ million first of all.? So where is the money coming from? There owners are more interested in their Yankee sides and not really bothered about Liverpool. There was some talk that the club couldn't even be sold on for a profit right now. Liverpool FC are a mess. Much like Dortmund were tbf. However Dortmund were patient. Are Liverpool. We all know the answer to that. They had almost as many managers in 30 years as we have had in our entire history (kind of guessing)
I wasn't excited by van Gaal's appointment and neither was anyone else I know. I don't know you so you don't count. No one I know is excited to this day, merely apathetic so far. It's hard to be excited by any manager following Ferguson, a bit a apprehensive is a more reasonable description. Liverpool supporters have fairly good reason to be optimistic as they've been fed ****e for decades. Klopp is the best available manager they could have got. I don't pretend to be able to predict the future like others so **** knows how it'll turn out.
In that sense then yes, after Fergie there's few if any managers to get excited about but as you have probably noticed, I am a van Gaal fan. It goes back to our great games against his side in 98/99. They became my 'European side' so to speak. I admire what he has done and achieved a lot and I like the 'I am the boss' attitude he has. Very much like Fergie did. After Moyes he was a very exciting appointment, though. A great choice by the club and one that is working, so far. Plenty of hiccups along the way but we are improving. Target was achieved and so far he's on course to mount a title challenge this season, at least at this early stage. I see you as the middle ground between the likes of me and Treble so as always, fair point.
I see van Gaal as the practical appointment more than anything, he's there to do the job of getting us back on track, getting rid of the deadwood and re assembling a squad capable of competing at the most important levels. On that front, so far so good. He's a pragmatic appointment though, to sort us out and stop us spiralling. That's why I'm not 'excited'. Intrigued certainly. I think when he goes as long as the next person is the right bloke things could become exciting again. They could well yet this season really, there's no one head and shoulders above the rest so we're in the mix.
In an Ideal world LVG would have come in to steady the ship then pass the reigns to a young hungry Klopp
Won't happen, purely due to the rivalry. The minute he signed for Liverpool he must have known he'll never be in the Utd hot seat... However, if it were to happen it would be interesting I'm not sure the servers on not606 could cope!
It certainly won't happen! I think our potential future manager is from an ever shortening list of candidates. Klopp is no longer on that list.
Giggs is being groomed for the job!! In my opinion it'll be madness for him to be manager, you'll need someone like Pep (or Klopp ) to continue the work LVG is doing
I suspect it's Guardiola or Giggs. I do like the idea of Giggs being manager with some of his old team mates as the coaching team but agree with the principle that he should remain assistant to the next manager. Especially if it's Pep, who I see as the natural successor to van Gaal. Giggs would be ready after that. I don't see why he should manage elsewhere, what does that teach him about being United manager? Nothing.
I just don't see Guardiola ruining his chances of managing us, knowing that LVG is due to leave after one more season. Why piss on his own chips by managing a bunch of nobodies? Can see City having Ancelotti though, it's right up his street.
Pep to city is based on his mate being there.... That's literally all its built on. Loads of his mates are at Barcelona too... A few at United.
