I used to spend a lot of time on my BMX at Costello BMX track, coincidentally I also spent a lot more time at A&E!!
Back in the late '50's it was Claud Butlers, Falcon and Carltons. I had the latter from Ken Ellerkers.
I last had a bike(in Hull) 56 years ago -Raleigh racing bike with Sturmey Archer gears. This Christmas am being given a new Mountain bike which will be used 70% on rough bush tracks and fire trails, 20% on rough bitumen roads and 10% on new smooth roads. Currently looking at models by Elsworth, Endura and Intense. Raleigh also make Mountain bikes. Any recommendations/comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
I would get something with front suspension only - not full suspension for general riding - front suspension will stop the buffeting through the wrists from varied road surfaces.
fat lads are better off with a heavier bike which makes them work harder to go the same distance thus resulting in increased weight loss. That's why I have a ****ty 150 quid mountain bike from Decathlon, well that and the fact that the roads in Sheffield are often worse than mountain bike trails so big ass wheels are needed
For cycling to work ,I have a Specialized hybrid , cost me £800 and cheap in comparison to a lot mentioned here , but it's my first road bike that cost over 125 and the difference was massive ,had it 3yrs now and it gets daily use
I've just bought the Mrs a Specialized Hybrid bike. Like the 2 bikes before it, it's not looking promising - it's 3 months old and has yet to turn a wheel in anger.
Where I live, I can get to the village/P.O./pub or into town for supermarket, travelling by quiet-ish lanes or off-road hard farm tracks. A lot of flints, looking to chiv your tyres. A mate gave me a (steel frame) Carrera Vulcan, several years old. A bit heavy, but good Tioga tyres (not a puncture in weeks)...
our lass got a Mary Poppins bike from East Coast cycles (y'know the Tweed set) - we did bike to North Ferriby cycling along the Humber for a pint but like you say thats it - in two years :/
This is the third bike I've bought her. The premise being one was too big, one was too uncomfortable - I think she's taking me for a ride
I've got a couple of Boardman bikes on the C2WS, decent bikes too the only problem is having to go through Halfords.
They have had decent reviews in fairness. It will be interesting to see how the Chris Hoy 'Hoy' bikes sell.

A lot of old (Clarion) cyclists get in my local. One old boy, last week, was on a Boardman. His son had bought it, disliked it and sold it half-price to his dad. Dad loves it. Man and his wife on Rory O'Briens; quite a lot of trad Brit hand-builts.
