Not like its the only song sang nationwide either. Back then pop songs were kind of popular to sing at matches. Liverpool may have started that trend in the 60s but there's clips of fans singing songs down at Pompy and elsewhere back in the 30s and 40s. Large groups of people, plus alcholol, plus friendly atmosphere might just spark a good ol' sing along.
