For the fools (myself included occasionally) that play the National Lottery the odds of winning the Jackpot have gone from from one in 14 million to one in 45 million as they are now 59 numbers to choose from instead of 49 ...a mugs game !
Picking 3 numbers stay the same you win 25 quid - see table below

Stopped playing when they doubled the stake.

    Sheer Camelot greed imo

When they doubled the price two years ago, one of the first things they did was set aside £5m for bonuses for the top people, including £1m for the chief on top of her £1m salary. This, despite claiming that the new format was to reignite interest at a time of declining sales. Declining sales? Isn't that poor performance and failure? Thought it was only bankers who got big bonuses for being poor. This latest scam is purely to make themselves profit , and remember some of this profit goes to the pension funds of Canadian teachers - they don't mention this much do they. Canadian teachers were not on any list of UK charities we were given to believe would benefit when lotto was introduced in 1992(?)
I really hope that people give up on this robbery and bring Camelot down. Please Richard Branson, get interested again !

Has anyone on here ever won one of the bigger prizes? having 5 correct numbers for instance ? I've had 4 numbers correct a couple of years ago won 160 quid and I've had few ten quid prizes over the years, tbh I don't play that often especially since the stake was doubled

I've had 4 numbers twice. First time (when it was a £1) got one of the lowest 4 number payouts, £34, second time when the 3 number prize went to £25 , that week there were a lot of low numbers so a lot of £25 guaranteed payments, reducing the amounts available at the other tiers, so I got £15 - smaller prize for 4 numbers than for three !

I never heard of anyone 'local' or a 'friend of a friend' etc winning the Raffle part of the weekly draw - makes me wonder if it's scam when considering that part of the Lotto

Not the lotto. But a soldier has just won 13.2 million quid from a 25p bet.

    Largest ever online.

Brother won a few bob on it. 5 and the bonus ball. £92000.

Once they doubled the cost I started doing the Irish. Will never win enough to retire on but have had a couple of £6500 and plenty of £650 wins. Pays for some holidays and weekends away.

Camelot have already stated they don't want a new licence for it so are now extracting the urine.
More chance on the New York or Spanish lotteries of winning decent prizes.

So they say a ''free'' lucky dip in the next draw for two numbers. How generous of them to give this. Except they're not.
Just looked at last nights prizes. About 1.5m people got 2 numbers. That's £3m worth of lucky dips. That £3m is regarded as one of the prize tiers, and comes out of the prize fund. So next draws' ''free'' lucky dips are actually paid for by the prize winners of the previous draw, whose prizes otherwise could be slightly higher.
    Thieves.

Premium bonds much better and you keep your stake money. Stick your weekly £2 in a jar and once a year get £100 bond. Over the life of the lottery this would have amounted to over £4000 in the pot not including winnings and you WOULD have won at least some of the lower prizes. On average I win at least 1 small prize a year and there's always a chance of the £1000000 or one of the other large prizes. Add small prizes to your stock automatically and it keeps on growing. SWMBO still puts ilottery on but she never did listen to me

We do similar but we all pick 8 numbers and pay £1 a week. Current value is £360 and I still need 3 numbers to win! Works great as a winner takes all thing and much better overall odds of winning something. Biggest prize we've had was over £800! Works a treat and most have won something in the last few years

in over 20 years we have had 4 numbers once, 3 loads of times but did not like it when it went up to £2 and not having the raffle choice. Stuck with the same numbers but now have to change. I had 4+1 on the euromillions once and £250, I have won stacks on the thunderball, that is the best to play. And just what Diddles said I have never heard of ANYONE winning the raffle, someone must have won.
