Well I can't claim not to have one, however I can say that I've only used £15 worth of credit on a PAYG mobile in 10 years of having the things. It actually nearly lost me a pay rise because my bosses boss found out I had a mobile and asked me to put the number in our "out of hours" contact list and I refused, stating it was for personal communications only. Frankly if I'm not in my house then I generally don't want anyone to contact me unless I've told them to do so, they can leave me a message on the answer-phone and I'll deal with it later. Thankfully I have a good boss who batted for me on that one.

    LOL :)

Am i the only one here who is that guy who will text while in company?

I have a social life that involves more than one person or one group of people - if im out for a few drinks i can keep in touch with those not there, or update facebook if i like.

Could you all hate them because you are with your only mate when out for a pint so you have no others to keep in contact with?!?!

It is just good manners that when you are with a friend that you give that person your full attention

I do respond to tets and, more likely work e-mails, in the pub but would try not to do it if I'm only in the company of one person.

    jordan -

if i put on facebook that i am out for a pint it allows all my mates to see that - and if they fancy joining me then they know where i am. its the new group text.

I can see where you are coming from in this matter, but its a usefull tool

The thing that a lot of mobile junkies don't understand, is that they are as boring as batshit when the bring out the phone. If I have a mate who's constantly on the mobile, the last place I'd want to be, is in a pub with him.

I bet in 15-20 years time the doctors surgery will be full up of people complaining about repetitive strain injury (in their thumb) & arthritis in their knuckles.

Will serve them all right if the doctor told them **** Off

I think in time, mobile phone users will be as welcome as the smoker is today. It'll be "For ****'s sake, take that outside!"

The "English" language is in a constant state of flux and always has been. After all how often do you drop a "doth" or "thou" or "hath" into a conversation these days?

I fall between the two camps on this one. If I'm out with a group of mates then I wouldn't necessarily consider it rude to send a quick text to a bird or something if I'm not in the middle of a conversation or whatever.

But if I was out with just one other person then yes, I wouldn't check my phone even if I heard that I'd received a text. If I got a call, I'd see who it was. It also depends partly on how well you know the person and where you are. Round at a girls house while she's watching something on TV and one of my mates ring, I'd usually answer it to see what the craich was.

It's loosely a generational thing, but there are exceptions to the rule at all ages.

It wasn't a comment on the joke but your assumption that no one got such an obvious joke
