The odds of becoming a millionaire are down from 1 in 14 million to 1 in 10 million because of the raffle. Which is why I'll be a millionaire this evening. #taxonidiots

It's the same as many big companies do, put the prices up & expect it to make up for a minority that will not buy their product, this is ridiculous, the increase in prices was ridiculous to begin with. I really hope they **** this up big time & everyone stops playing. But there is always those people who play their regular numbers & don't want to miss out on it.

I've had a tipple tonight as they're giving away loads of raffle places but after that I won't bother anymore just euromillions.

saw the thread and just rushed out to get 2 "unlucky" dips. Haven't played the lottery for ages after going 10 years with two lines of same numbers, for various reasons including one which money would not cure. If I win a big amount, will give most away as money no longer rules my life.

Well if they keep playing their regular numbers they have even less chance to win now with the 10 new numbers.

    "Tonight's winning raffle is Y...."
Bollocks, all mine start with X,R,Q & A!
****ing raffle won't get people playing it, may as well be giving away a tin of spam for getting all 6 numbers!

I feel it's worth noting the lottery fund a lot of things around the country and make a huge difference to communities in doing so.

At least your money is going somewhere good and you've got a chance of winning something and having a meaningful life.

Just remind me of the split between good causes, and the operators costs / profits. I thought Virgin ( ? ) offered a lottery deal with much more going to good causes and yet Camalot was given the license again.

Stopped doing it when it went to £2. Did the same numbers every draw since day 1 and never looked to check the numbers.

Now, all I occasionally do is a Euromillion lucky dip

These are Camelots own figures from 2009 when they were awarded the franchise (again) as found on wiki, so could be wrong.
The whole lottery story is quite an interesting read.

Each pound (100p) spent on the National Lottery is split as follows:

    • 50p → Prize Fund
    • 28p → Good Causes
    • 12p → Government
    • 5p → Retailers as Commission
    • 5p → Camelot
      • 4.5p → Camelot for Operating Costs
      • 0.5p → Camelot for Profit

Quite interesting that one of the main distributors of the "good causes " money is Sport England. Their most recent advice for applicants in the £20,000 to £50,000 Inspired Facilities(£110,000,000 available) is that future rounds will favour bids from London - apparently the capital hasn't had a fair share of awards recently.
