After warning Russia earlier this week not to fly into it's airspace it is being reported that Turkey has shot down a Russian fighter.

Is this due to infringement of their airspace, or is it in support of IS as Turkey would want them to continue to exist so they will fight the Kurds, which saves Turkey having to do it.

I wonder what Putin will do now, Turkey has one of the largest standing armies in the world.

    Worrying times.

If true it's ironic since Russia haven't targeted IS in any of their strikes...but good on Turkey...first country to have the balls to slap the Russians when they test airspace...

We just smile at them when they fly over...

Not true. We just keep 'scrambling' our jets to 'escort' them away.

    Repeatedly.

    And again.

No matter how many times they do it.

    But we don't smile.

Yes, I'm not actually expecting us to shoot them out of the sky as our airspace is not a war zone...but ...our response times are not great..the MOD has been screaming about the stretched coverage with something as basic as defending our own airspace.

This is a yet again aggressive Russia and we talk more than we do as a govt.

Not slagging the poor sods expected to cover a coast line with 4 planes..

Turkey has been helping ISIL for 4 years. IS oil goes through Turkey.

    "Russia is not targeting IS"
    Someone's been reading the ministry of truth(BBC) <laugh> <doh>

Russia targeted Al Nusra, which is one group of the few groups that make up ISIL and IS or ISIS is one of them.
Al Nusra is remnants of Al Qaeda and other groups teamed up with ISIL/

That is who Russia is bombing, the very people that carried out the chemical attacks.

Turkey is involved and so is Russia, so this may not have been a case of just invading airspace, if Russia is targeting targets inside Turkey's territory then this is where the support lines are for IS and Al Nusra in Syria.

Definitely could make thinfs worse, only a ****** would feel glee over this incident, especially after not displaying a shred of anything when the US just bombed the **** out of a hospital

Again I actually wasn't criticising Russia's approach. They've made clear they support a continuation of Assad's regime so its logical to regain the territory around that which he holds... If they then, once they solidify that position branch out and attack IS strong holds, fine..

Turkey clearly has its own agenda as you say...they still get to defend their own borders ..something you've always defended BBF?

Finally. Someone with the balls to stand up to the Russian bullies. Russia knows what they're doing. They have strict orders to test out the responses of NATO countries to see how long their planes have in our territory should conflict ever occur.

We should all shoot their planes out the sky-show them we're not weak targets.

Putin doesn't want war now. He just wants to know we're weak in case war ever did come. He want to threaten us and make himself look weak. A few downed fighters is a step in the right direction.

If there is a world war will it adversely effect house prices in the South East? I think the Daily Mail should be told.

****ing Britain-hating BBC just referred to the 'Malvinas Current' instead of Falklands Current in a nature programme about Patagonia. Pinko, Junta-loving, security-threatening, sweet-tasting, cool-refreshing Pepsi!. I mean bastards. :steam:

Strange that American and Israeli drones can infringe foreign airspace and bomb the 5hit out of places but when Russians fly a manned aircraft over foreign airspace it's criminal?

21st century and the state of the world is a fcking mess. There's no good guys and bad guys. The civilised world ffs <laugh> Fcking hell, red indians, aboriginis and undiscovered tribes in the amazonian rainforests have a better outlook on life than the fcking toads ruling this planet.

    I read this.

If true, this could go anywhere.

    Turkey is backed by USA.

The USA have many air bases in Turkey and the famous spy planes the US used to send over Russia during the Cold War were sent and based in Turkey.

This could be nipped in the bud or could escalate into literally anything.

A few diplomats will get angry at each other and that's the closest this will come to conflict. I think Russia will stop flying in Turkey now. They can't let another one get downed. Another one down they have to retaliate or lose face. Two things Putin won't want to do.

There are no reports in the wider media. It was initially reported on various online sites, then picked up by Daily Fail, who get most of their news from other peoples blogs.

Seems it may have been a false report, unless it is being suppressed. Will have to see as the day pans out, but I am now beginning to doubt the initial report.
