Same here, he looked fast, sharp and raring to go and he took his goal superbly. I don't buy into the theory that he's only doing it because his contract's up, I'm cynical but not that cynical. I think his performance was due to wanting the best for Advocaat, that didn't work out but he looks a lot more up for it than he has done and that can only be good.
When he was going back for the kick off he was pointing at the bench as if to say that one was for you although he might of been giving credit for a training ground idea
If that`s the case shouldn`t he be bringing it to our training ground? I don`t know mate. That bloke`s got me puzzled and no mistake.
My theory is that before the game Advocaat said either "this is my last game so go out there and do me proud" or "lose and I go, win and I stay". Either way the team I saw that day wasn't what I was expecting and Fletcher was among the most surprising. It's certainly true that anyone who plays for us shouldn't need any extra motivation other than playing for one of the biggest teams in the UK and being paid handsomely for it but whatever, Fletcher was certainly fired up about something.
Two words: Mark Viduka Absolute top quality legend when his contract was due. Crap for the other seasons.
Sorry pops I was on about the West Ham game - must admit I had heard the rumours about Dick and when I saw that I knew Dick was away
So little contribution for the last two seasons, then, contract coming up, it suddenly goes up a couple of notches. Might just be me being suspicious but..........?
Two more (longer) words - Emmanuel Adebayor.... Pops - I kind of understand where you're coming from but his contract entered it's final year in July - he's needed a new contract for quite some time so why only the weekend? He looked so sharp and actually looked fitter than I've seen him since his first season here. THAT Steven Fletcher is an asset to any lower to mid table PL club. The only person who really knows is Fletcher - Prior to his injury he looked a very good player. Since his injury he's picked up niggles here and there and everywhere and never looked fit let alone interested - he looked fit and interested on Saturday. Regardless of that - if that's the fletcher we've got for the rest of the season then that is certainly a good thing for SAFC as a whole! Even if he's playing for his contract, if he scores goals and keeps us up then offer him 2 years! shorter term contract for players like him might be a better idea
He is playing for a contract elsewhere, he knows where his bread is buttered does SF, the Adebayor comparison is spot on, SF great talent, no comittment, for Jos sadly its the reverse, he still makes a very good captain though, but is it enough ? both players have greatly contributed to our plight imo.
