Not many places can lay claim to a transfer thread that smashed through the 600 + pages of **** barrier.

I used to love the old CI with the old characters from other boards Stagmad, oXo and Essex Gull - this one isn't the real one I am sure. Then Fenwick et al. Wipes away tear.

CI just sadly went into decline, Vital was full of mods that were overly ****ish, spesh that Rob ****, AN was and still is good for the odd pearls of wisdom, especially TTWTWT, NOT606 is the most active, and, as Happy rightly said, is full of a great cross section of different poster types.

For those of you asking about John Firth I can tell you that he is alive and well and still an avid Hull City supporter. I converse with John almost daily through Facebook and his "Commercial Liquidators" business is doing well. Has talked about returning to Hull but most of us put him off. He could be coming to OZ next year and we have assured him of a warm welcome should he drop into beautiful 'Down-Town' Traralgon. A really great bloke who, when i wanted a Betsey Johnson watch for the 'Child-Bride' from the US of A and they wouldn't post to Oz, John bought it for us and sent it to us under the guise of "Voodoo Beads" (so the Child Bride wouldn't guess what it was. I did, of course reimburse John as it was not a cheap watch but that's the sort of bloke he is. I will ask him to post on here to talk to you all.

The bit about the watch is what these forums is all about! IMO! There's lots of **** slung around but when it comes down to it, people chip in!
I remember you on Vital & all your child bride stories. Hope you're doing good, I would say old man, judging by your posts over the years, but you occasionally come out with stuff worthy of being younger!<cheers>
It's a ****ing compliment before you have some witty very old come back!<cool><cheers>

Forums evolve - at one time the AN forum was the only way to communicate on that site. Now they've got twitter, facebook, an excellent podcast, a weekly TWTWT plus assorted articles. The forum always comes to life when there's friction of some kind though and there's much less vacuous twattery than on here.

Really? I'm gob smacked it's still going at all!!!

I was down South when I was active on there and it was a very different situation to now. The fans were divided into two distinct camps with one faction supporting the Chairman Martin Fish and Manager Terry Dolan as having the best interests of the club at heart and doing the best job they could while the other faction wanted them both out before the club disappeared for ever. Glad to say we're all a lot more united now........

The situation got steadily worse of course but little did we know our savior was just around the corner in the form of an ex-tennis playing millionaire and a hyper prolific goal scoring player manger...oh hang on!

I just wonder how much spare cash the Allam's actually have. When people build up a business they usually use loans secured on the shares to get money to spend. I've just looked at Allam Marine Limited accounts and they declared dividends of £4m in 2014 (2013: £5m). Just think - they have to pay tax of 45% on that! And on the interest on the loans to Hull City which must be about another £3m.

Why would they pay 45% on dividends, Mr Saxton?

Additional rate tax payers pay around 38% in the UK now, don't they?

I would imagine like most family-owned large businesses, they wil be mainly paid via directors loans anyway.

Or are you referring to how much the business has, rather than the family?
