New Castle St footbridge will have specially designed tilted railings designed to prevent people jumping/falling onto Hull's busiest road.

Has anyone considered double-decking Castle Street? One level in each direction. Solving the congestion problem?

It works for the Oakland Bay Bridge.

Aren't there a few former fire stations scattered around d Hull? I seem to recall a doorway with fireman's helmets (fnaar) around the side of Spring Bank Tavern on that road that leads to the fantastically named Milky Way.

That was an old fire station. The building was used by Cornell's who had the music shop on the corner with Spring Bank. Then the Brewery took over the property and extended the old SBT on to the corner and that's how it is now.

The new fire station they're moving to is also being built near Milky Way.

This is the old Volunteer Fire Service Station on Hall Street...

There's also the old Hull Corporation Fire Station...

Ha, I, and two others, attempted to buy that in 2006/7.

Fell through due to planning issues and also some investor problems.

Rather glad about it in hindsight considering what happened to Hull's housing market shortly afterwards.

As well as a face lift, it would be good if it had a lift to the upper tier. Access for people with mobility problems is poor at the moment.

I'm not sure, but I think it was near the Railway Dock and was probably demolished when they built the A63.

You could well be right, Lambo. I remember there were a number of buildings - offices, warehouses - that had curving walls, in that area. Wasn't there a brilliant old warehouse that could have been saved, like those at Railway Dock? But it went.

It was Commercial Road, near the old abattoir. Sort of near where toys r us is now.

I believe a warehouse very similar to Warehouse 13 was demolished, but I can't remember the details.

There were a lot of great properties demolished to make way for the A63, this is Queen Street looking towards Hull, it was all demolished (now the bottom of the flyover)...

Found it, Warehouse No.7 was demolished in 1971, it's criminal that it was allowed. There's a picture on page 47...

Cheers for that link. That warehouse I remember, vaguely, but it's not the one I was thinking of.
Got any links to old street maps, before the clearance/development?

It was said to be required for maintaining the environmental conditions needed for attracting national and international exhibitions.

Guessing that's no longer the case. Maybe they're sticking that water fountain back in.

The glass box required to maintain the temperature/humidity is still there, they're just building it inside instead of sticking it on the front.
