I think there were many mistakes made all around the same time. As good as the money we got for him and how little he has played since, I have always wished we never sold Woodgate. He was an absolute class act and the next centre back we signed after that was Boumsong. Sir Bob should never have been sacked, if every manager was sacked after four games without a win then very few managers would make it to half a season. If it hadnt been for Chelski's millions then we still would have finished in 4th in 2003/04, we couldnt compete with that financial power after only bringing in Lee Bowyer.
The signing of Souness goes beyond belief. Not only did he sign ****e players by the bucket load, he dismantled our side in a similar way to what Dalglish did. Souness fell out with Robert, Bellamy and Bernard, three of our best young players at the time.
Also, in terms of transfer policies, with Robson as manager, our spending was reasonably sensible and we were buying players that suited the team. Under Souness it was completely different, he wanted to buy every player under the sun. I think Shepherd gave the same backing to both managers, its just Souness spent for the sake of spending. Had someone like Graham Carr watched Souness' signings before they were made, I can almost guarentee many of them would never have joined the club.

He did yes, made it 3-2 with a screamer into the roof of the net.

Great point. However, Souness is the type of arrogant tosspot that would go against viewpoints from his top scouts.

I can see Souness doing that! Even if Graham Carr was at NUFC in those days, Souness would have still overruled him. because thats the type of ****er he is. URGH, the man makes my blood boil! PRICK! I could never understand why Shearer always seemed so supportive, he obviously did something right.

Not that I remember. Such a shame he was injured all the time.

Yeah really was. I'am sure he would have become a club legend, had stayed free of injury! He was my favourite player at one point.

My most enduring memory of Emre was watching him in the pre-match warm up wearing what can only be described as an Arctic survival suit in October... I thought it was fairly warm outside.

Had a brilliant pic of Emre bending a free kick around Shearer and into the bottom left hand corner of the net against Sunderland. The ball just scaped in between the keepers fingers and the post.

Surely Shearer has the money, skill (compared to Shola) and managerial expertise to be player/manager/chairman, no?
