Foreword: I'm not suggesting we sign a manager who is currently a player for another team I am just asking a question.

What are FIFA's rules regarding hiring someone who is a player for another team outside a transfer window? Can you sign a player for a non-player role.

For example (not suggesting we do this): if FSG wanted Derek Asamoah to be the new manager (or coach) could we sign him? Or the fact that he is playing for another team currently mean that we would need to wait for transfer window.

Staff can be transfers anytime but what about players transitioning to staff?

/ I have no one in mind this is purely a theoretical question to those who know the rules better than me

isnt transfer windows for players only, so as he would be joining as staff, im going to assume it should be ok to do at any time.

That was my initial assumption but if the player is currently under a player contract I wasn't sure if that would apply.

Presumably you would have to buy our his contract to turn him into non-player staff.

He could join any time, however they'd have a contract with the club so you'd have to either agree compensation with the club, or if he terminated his contract by mutual agreement then he's unemployed.

The transfer window is just for players registering with you and being eligible to play. You can sign loads of players outside the window if you wanted to, you just couldn't register them until the window was open.

Managers obviously aren't included so doesn't matter if it's in or out the usual window

    ^This.

Employment laws don't allow restrictions on contracts (assuming any existing ones are first honoured), the window is mainly about registering in time for a particular competition.

However if a player is signed on a non-player contract they wouldn't be allowed to train as they wouldn't be covered by the insurance.

They make the rules up as they go along(like the FA)

Today Platini's was banned for 90 days from taking part in ANY football related activities, then the FIFA ethics( <laugh> )committee said he's still ok to put himself forward as a candidate for the biggest job in world football.<laugh>

  8. He wouldn't be able to play for anyone else because its outside the window of player registration. However, he could retire from playing and move. Liverpool could then negotiate the player registration ready for January.

Liverpool could actually sign the player immediately, he just wouldn't be allowed to play until January.

  9. Wrong. Coaches often join in with training and they're registered as non-players.

Registering as a non-player would merely be for the FIFA clarification. They could be registered as a player again from January anyway.

Another example is the players that Barca have signed. They're not allowed to buy players until January yet they have players on their books training.

Radio was saying Platini's suspension rules him out of running for job now. (even if no charges made). He's suspended from any football related activity. He won't even be able to register as an official candidate for the presidency as the deadline will pass during his suspension period.

Conspiracy Theorists might say that the timing of his suspension is not a coincidence.

Either thank goodness he's out of the running now... Hopefully Prince Ali is less corrupt and doesn't turn out to be a Prince of thieves in disguise.

    Super G Ted'inho likes this.

  11. Which is great but doesn't it open the doors for compensation should he be found innocent?

    <laugh> @ innocent

Their unethical committee confirmed hes at the moment still in the running for the presidency.

    12:35
Uefa president Michel Platini's provisional suspension by Fifa from all football-related activities does not automatically invalidate his candidacy for the presidency or world football's governing body.

"That (Platini's candidacy) is not a question for the ethics committee but for Fifa's electoral commission, which will study its validity," committee spokesman Andreas Bantel told AFP.
