I'm never waking up Lee, I'll remain in this slumber forever too terrified to contemplate the real world. What if I awoke one day and I was a ****ing spammer!
I remember a lad in school being an 'ammer and there was a girl who lived up the road from me.When I was doing my apprenticeship there was a lad in tech who supported West Ham.A lad who worked in the same place as me had a son who supported West Ham.I was coming home from a game by train a couple of years ago and two West Ham fans got on the train in Crewe who were also travelling to North Wales
To be fair, Luvvy, you are one of a handful of sensible and realistic Mousers in the entire world. I get the feeling, with you, that you know the glory days are well and truly gone for 'Pool, and that they are not coming back for a very long time. I get the feeling, also, with you, that you know that both Spurs and Everton are likely to do far better than 'Pool over the next decade. Finally, I suspect that you were horrified by Klan-gate and Tramp Kenny's insistence that the 'Pool squad wear those disgraceful (and slightly creepy) "Suarez" tee-shirts, in training. You are not like other Mousers, Luvvy.
Stealth wum attempt from HAIG? I'll respond though. So the fact that I declare the league ours every season has been totally missed, I'm not called sensible very often but do occasionally post my honest opinion and like to talk about footy so don't always go on other boards to wum as I don't want that brick wall when I ask a serious question. I like to think that I'm honest about my club and that I can take a step back and see the flaws, it has not been great as of late and we are in danger of being seen in the same category as your Spurs even Carra has admitted this although it may be seen as a call to arms. “Liverpool are becoming Tottenham,” said Carragher. “They think they are a big club but the real big clubs aren’t too worried about who they are buying or what they do.” So, was Carra on the money? We have fallen behind and we need to start winning again simple as that really. In direct response to the contraversial issue you raised. I believe that Suarez told Kenny honestly that he didn't do it so Kenny then believed him and supported his player, nothing wrong with that. I've been clear on my stance on the whole thing but won't go into it again as I now find it kind of boring.
" “Liverpool are becoming Tottenham,” said Carragher. “They think they are a big club but the real big clubs aren’t too worried about who they are buying or what they do.” So, was Carra on the money?" The answer to that is inexorably linked to whether you consider Arsenal to be a "real big" club. If your answer is yes, then Carragher is one of the biggest tools in the box. If your answer is no, then Carragher is correct (but there are implications even in that) . What is your answer (as an individual, collective Mouserdom etc) ... ??
Arsenal are certainly a big club both historically and in the modern world of football, they have fallen short a lot in recent times but still have the fanbase and financial infrastructure required for them to be considered a big club.
"Arsenal are certainly a big club both historically and in the modern world of football, they have fallen short a lot in recent times but still have the fanbase and financial infrastructure required for them to be considered a big club." So you are saying that Arsenal are (in Carragher-speak) a "real big" club, yes ??
Why question what I've typed? You seem a fairly clever person, am I not being clear or are you just being a dick?
"Why question what I've typed?" Solely because of the weasel word nature of so many Internet forum warriors ( "ah, but what I REALLY meant was ..." etc) . So ... if Arsenal are a "real big" club, then Carragher is as I stated an utter tool. For is it not the case that for at least 3 of the past 10 PL seasons, their coveted CL slot has nearly been lost to Spurs, going down to the last game of the PL season ?? Is it not the case that in at least two of those seasons, they had to raise the game in the final third of the season to a level of form typical of league champions ?? That is the evidence that a "real big" club in fact gets VERY worried about what a club like Spurs does, on-pitch at the very minimum. Carragher, like all Mousers, has to learn to live with the fact that for all their extra revenue, and "history" , Spurs are a better run outfit. More PL placing bang for their buck. A chairman who wields the transfer/wage cost axe with a titanium fist. And a squad that even when the club has manager comedy hour, still finishes in the top 6. Spurs, dey do all the above don't dey doh.
And so out it comes after weaseling about for 3 posts. Spurs are doing so well, and the club is in a fantastic state getting into the Champions League and winning Trophies. But hold on that's not the case is it? You can disagree with Carr and myself but it does not eleavate you to anything more than wha's in your head, at this moment Spurs are also rans as are Liverpool I'm unhappy with that but can admit it.
Unfortunately, the relatively recent arrival of multi billionaire owners has turned all but the super rich into also rans. Fact is it ain't a level playing field anymore. The financial playing field is most definitely sloped towards the few.
I agree, it's going to be difficult to consistantly get into the top 4. As a fan I want in there to see my club play in the Champions League and am not so interested in the financial implications, that's for the club to deal with. Spurs and ourselves are trying to make that leap and it's no easy task.
"You can disagree with Carr and myself but it does not eleavate you to anything more than wha's in your head" Nothing about "elevation" whatsoever. The fact is that "real big" clubs do have to worry about what Spurs are doing (one of those clubs more often than the others) . And you don't have to be a "real big" club to cause such worry. Nor richer. Just better run, on and off-pitch, at the key moments.
"Unfortunately, the relatively recent arrival of multi billionaire owners has turned all but the super rich into also rans. Fact is it ain't a level playing field anymore." It never was. In any period, the club that is the Empire has the financial clout and material success to attract players with varying combinations of financial/silverware aspiration. But even loads more money than your would-be usurpers does not protect you from the right combination of on/off pitch incompetence (as the last 5-6 PL seasons have proved) .
I'd disagree. The top clubs when I was young - of which we were one - are no longer the the top clubs. In today's game, yes a big club can have an off season. Utd had a real shocker, Chavs are having one this. But, they'll buy their way out of it, just as Utd did. Unless something changes dramatically, today's top clubs will still be tomorrow's.
