I think we all know where this is heading. They don't grant appeals lightly and it seemed to me from the outset that his defence team was incompetent. I have a lot of sympathy with feminist issues but this particular one seems more like the "victim" thinking she might scam a pink Mini Cooper out of a naive young lad. if he is cleared she should be charged.

It's impossible to know at this stage...it's possible that the new information submitted casts a whole new light on the events; it's equally possible that it is a relatively minor technicality that calls just one element of a substantial case into doubt.

I hope that he didn't commit rape and that the appeal proves that beyond doubt.

I hope if this appeal fails, bearing in mind the way he, his girlfriend and his friends and family hounded the victim on social media, that they send him back to complete his full term in prison!

If the appeal is successful, I fear that fewer women who are subjected to sexual assault by 'celebrities' will be willing to press charges.

I don't want to comment on this very much.

But what I will say is that I bet things like this go on every week with young very rich footballers running around with questionable morals. As for it being rape/sexual assault from what I've read it was crying out for an appeal.

Here is the link to the father-in-laws website that was setup. It is an interesting read.

So if she falsely accused him of rape the family should sit quietly by the side and let her get on in life whilst a son, partner or friend languishes in a cell? I'm not saying that he is innocent but if one of your family was accused of such an act and you believed them to be innocent would you look the otherway? Say nothing? do nothing? I think you and yours would have a collective anger and these lot vented.
It comes down to; one of them has done something completely despicable and is worthy of all the abuse and punishment one of them has not. If the truth ever truly outs itself then we will know who has truly been out of order.

    Bah!

On the other hand if it is unsuccessful might it lead to or encourage more chancers to try and trap wealthy young sportsmen? I have little sympathy for degenerate sportsman but if he's found innocent then like others I hope that she ends up serving time because to make the accusation against someone who hasn't done it is despicable considering the social impact it has on the accused.

All he can ask for and expect is a fair trial with all appropriate evidence brought forward. If this appeal does this then the system is working.

If that happens and he is found guilty then so be it. Similarly if he is exonerated then so be it.

Either way it is a very sorry affair which would have been easily avoided had he shown even a modicum of moral fibre. I honestly don't think anyone is going to come out of this case smelling of roses - either he is going to be confirmed as a rapist or she is going to be a gold-digging liar with the possibility of more legal action to come.. Horrible situation easily avoided - if he is found not guilty then I am sympathetic for his legal problems but he still acted really badly OK immoral rather than illegal but I find it very difficult to feel that sorry for him.

As it was a long time ago, I appreciate you may have forgotten some of the details of the case! She allegedly went willingly with one man to the hotel room and agrees that the sex with him was consensual, but then, allegedly, Evans joined in without her consent. The fact that the other footballer was not charged would indicate, to me, that she is telling the truth!

It certainly paints a compelling picture of his innocence. But it should be remembered that it is a website of a vested interest in the case so may omit more damning evidence on Ched.

That said the final part that the basis of the case was her inability to consent and only one of them was found guilty, comes across as quite a laughable conclusion!

But if she reputedly has no recollection of that period of the night how can she say that she hadn't consented? I am not that familiar to the case as I didn't follow it at the time so could be wrong.
I do agree with Norfolkbhoy though, One way or another he had a partner at the time and even if innocent of rape he is still not a very nice individual!

As I understand it Evans foolishly went along with admitting to some aspects in the mistaken belief that it would exonerate him. This isn't rape within the accepted meaning of the word. Some of her texts to a friend where she refers to "Getting matching pink Mini Coopers" makes it sound more like an attempt to blackmail him to me.

Pretty much my take on it and at what cost to the taxpayer having an appeal?? There is certainly an element of 'being economical with the truth' on both sides.

I'd suggest we'd have all been better off if this wasn't splashed across newspapers and Everyone involved didn't come across as a complete tool. As it is, in my opinion, discussing it is a pointless exercise and only brings more attention to a particularly unpleasant situation.

Are you ever going to answer my questions about Trident on the political thread fella? It's almost been a week now, and I answered your question pretty much straight away. I know Tories (and their supporters) traditionally don't like answering straight questions straight on wherever they can avoid or wriggle out of them, but fair's fair eh?

Of course it could be a natural reaction to a false conviction. A lawyer once told me that if people are still protesting after having served the sentence they are almost certainly innocent.

I think whilst that maybe true in a number of cases, it wouldn't necessarily be so in any instance where the individual is in the public eye. Ched for example has his employment prospects seriously diminished by that conviction and as long as he thinks he can quash the verdict he will try because most fans are not going to take to a convicted rapist at their club and some owners might have morals enough to say that a rapist is not the sort of role model they want at their club
