WUM fail. Your RS manager was a clown which followed another buffoon (dogleish) so I can't see any justification for your gloating He will be here another 18 months and he won't have the finished article by then, probably leave the task of winning the title to his successor.
You are saying the obvious. He is interim and will be leaving in one and half years. I don't expect and won't want him to extend his stay. Hopefully his successor will take us to the next stage. I don't expect him to bring us the title even with £300m spent. Stabilising a big team on the slide takes years. As I've said many times. There will be lots of uncertainty and disappointments on the way.
Exactly, 3 year contract leading to retirement. His mandate was to build a team of players capable of competing (job done) and keep us up around the top (successful so far). The next manager will walk into a very stable club with a great squad to utilise and build on.
I think it also works when teams are looking to counter attack and exploit an attacking set up by the opponents. That's what did for Chelsea and City recently when they were embarrassed by Saints and Spurs, and what has done for Liverpool in a fair few games. A lot of teams in the PL are now playing that way against the big teams and getting some joy, so LVG is setting us up to play against that sort of style. Which works against the smaller teams, but not when teams aren't interested in looking for counter attacking opportunities and will just set up to harass us and create their own openings, like Arsenal did very well yesterday. Our current style also seems overly predicated on being able to keep the other side at arm's length in the first half, then pick apart their defence and clean up in the second. Unfortunately we failed to achieve either of those against Arsenal, and also didn't seem to have any plan B to fall back on which is a concern.
Not just Arsenal mate. There's been 4 teams already this season. I get what you're saying but I think you have to weigh up whether negating the opponent's ability to counter attack warrants creating little or no chances of your own. The problem for me with that approach is that the minute you come across a well organised defence with a potent attack, you now no longer have the ability to break them down while looking likely to concede. The game against Wolfsburg, everyone to a man in that ground could see where the pass was on or the through ball. But we didnt play them. For fear of giving the ball away (or the counter attack) we're missing opportunities to kill teams off. The irony is that after 50 passes we work the ball into the oppo's half and give the ball away anyway. But just bcos our players are set back and able to avoid the counter attack, that seems to be ok. Weird stuff.
This is where we differ Christian. I dont believe he is stabilising the team. I'm not even sure we need stabilising tbh. I want the manager to build a team. Disappointments, setbacks, poor results I have no problem with. What worries me is what he's doing with the players we have. I doubt anything he's doing now will matter 2 years from now.
Arsenal did to United what United used to do to Arsenal ie go at them from the start. United were expecting another first half tactical bore fest but were blown away in the first 20 minutes. Very poor strategy!
Wasn't a wum. I see you're not capable of adult conversation. Your post was absolute unintelligible waffle that I didn't even bother to finish
Oh really? I think he's good, don't get me wrong. But he just doesn't set up like a classic United team. I just dunno. Maybe get Jose when he eventually leaves.
I'd rather take a classic United that gets hammered 3-0 by Arsenal or 6-1 by City than the manner of our defeat yesterday. Not sure if anyone's even mentioned this, it is the first time we've conceded 3 goals inside 20 mins in the whole of the PL era and probably closer to nigh on 30 years. If that was a Moyes record-breaker, we'd be having that plastered everywhere tbh. That would be like going from the frying pan into the fire. Let me just have a think... do I want death by a thousand cuts or shall I watch Blakey parking buses until my eyes bleed?
True, but then a classic Utd team has always been an SAF team. No other manager would set up the same way as him, at least not with anything like the same level of success. He is a good manager, but doesn't seem to have decided yet how he wants to set up at the start of the game. As Treble pointed out above, he seems to rely on us having time to pass it around a bit whilst he works out how we are going to attack and score. Works fine against teams which don't press, or don't press all that well, and against counter attacking sides, but not so much against a side which goes for you straight from the off. Although to be fair Arsenal did that very well on Sunday - very few other sides we play will make and take chances that decisively, and that would include Arsenal in most of the games they have played thus far this season. Ultimately, results like that can always happen as a one off, so the key question is how you respond. City were well beaten by Juve a few games back, and went on to stumble to two successive defeats in the league before regaining form. We need to bounce back quickly to avoid that sort of malaise. That's always the true test of a manager and a team's credentials imo.
I am the opposite. United was so damn **** in that first 20-25 minutes that it must have been some freak occurence. The players were simply not on the pitch and it was Arsenal playing against the under 16s or something like that. I would have been more worried if United had put up a fight and been rolled over. That 6-1 against City at OT was more informative IMO and announced them as a real force.
It was a freak result. Arsenal came out flying and we couldn't handle it. The rest if the game was as it was expected tbh. This result ranks with losing 5-3 to Leicester or 6-3 at saints. A complete write off. Nobody is free from blame but the chances of it happening again are slim. Its a year since it last happened (Leicester).
