The deal appears to be getting closer but I can't see we would agree personal terms - he has 2 years left on what must be better than we would offer him.
With his record (apart from Colchester) it's easy to see that at 33 in 2 weeks that we can agree a fee with Burnley and their fans putting into the whip for the taxi..........

If he comes, how will we play with him? Can't see that he was a number 1 target for us - the best he can give us is 2 years. A foil for Marvin & Deeney? A distraction in the box & flick-ons from crosses? No long ball game please.

Good signing IMO. He adds much needed experience and physicality. He guaratees goals at this level. Only a two year contract so we havn't tied ourselves to anything long term. Good in the air which may be sensible as we have bought two wingers this summer if they can cross well that adds something to our armour. As well as passing through the middle we can get it wide and put crosses in. Dyche has said he wants to play football on the floor but with our pitch come February and depending on certain teams style's it is important to have a plan B.

The point about our pitch makes sense and if he can get on the end of a few crosses then it will be a worthwhile signing.

He scored 3 against us last season so maybe that influenced the decision.

Will he be another (albeit cheaper) Ellington (product wise) or like the original Ross Jenkins (70's) for us?

Totally agree Chris not a bad signing at all, another experienced head in the ranks is helpful!

I think it is a good signing too. We have so many short-arses, who can get knocked off the ball too easily, it will be good to have a big strong presence up front. He will get goals, and brings a lot of experience to the squad!

I'm pleased and surprised that this rumoured transfer has gone through, I thought his wages would actually prove too much for us, but it's good that we've signed an experienced striker like him. Dyche and Bassini have set about trying to increase the average age of the squad, and I think that's a good idea. A signing like him, plus another striker and a left-back, might convince the likes of Sordell and Eustace to stay.

I posted in the other thread about how pleasently surprised i am by this signing (like many other Hornets im guessing), but what id like to say is this: could this be the perfect transfer window? All other positions have been filled, could we actually go all the way and finally sign a permanent left-back? Theres a good few weeks til the season starts, and a good few more til the window closes, so time is very much on our side.

If a decent left-back does come in, what a contrast the mood will be around here to what it was a few weeks ago when Mackay (was that his name?) left. Oh to be a Watford fan... :p

Discounting back room staff.... but when was the last time we had more come in than out??

It is pleasing so many new players are willing to come to us, a team with a new manager and so much speculation about our 'problems'. With a bigger squad, I'd like to think we can be a bit mroe selective about loanees too, ratehr than just get anyone in to bolster numbers!

A left-back, maybe another striker, topped up by a couple of quality loanees and all of a sudden, the season looks brighter!

I find myself being very very happy at the moment, which is a very rare feeling when you support WFC. If we can get a good loan striker and a permanent left back, i will be over the moon and could see a fantastic season ahead of us. With out a left back i can only see a season like the last, whilst this is good for us, i think we are better than this and the big weakness is our left side, as it is with a lot of teams. So with a new LB we have cover for all positions and competition for them which will keep the players honest.

"over the moon" ....... "fantastic season ahead". Streuth and blimey, not a word about the fact that 15,000 Burnley fans wanted to pay for the taxi ride to get rid of Iwelumo!

Of the 5 signings so far, is there any quality in any of them???? I will be at Wealdstone tonight looking for any indications of quality.

Maybe ..... here's something. Iwelumo had been described as "injury prone", yet his 12 month Burnley career shows he was available for 45 of the 46 league games last season. On that basis he can be seen as having a good level of fitness.

I believe he is a cheap signing and has fitted into our salary policy, so I can hear the question "what is there to lose". I cannot argue with the gamble factor, but is he purely a "1 dimension target man"?

Oh pardon me for being optamistic about things. When you look back at last season, how many of our players were "quality"? Even DG had only had an ok season before and was looking at doing the same. We had tonnes of holes in that squad and we filled them with youngsters who were unproven at all levels. We now have players who have done ok-well at their level and 2 have plenty of experience. We could have signed 5 premiership regects and you could say the same about them. What will it take to please you Elixir??
