Swearing isn't against the rules. Long as it isn't used to shout abuse at another poster, I see no problem with it. If you don't like what another person posts just block them.
I've got absolutely no problems with 99% of what FLT posts. We get on well apart from when it comes to referees. I just think he could tone down the criticism.
But everyone has their own way of voicing their opinion. It's not like a ref or any one else really care that some random on a forum has called them a twat. Now if FLT or others started saying threatening stuff towards the ref then I would agree with you. Simply saying the ref is a.... insert a word in here is nothing.
I may well be over sensitive when it comes to referees but you don't hear what gets said to referees during amateur games. I've already sent someone off this season for calling me a ****ing **** to my face and I've issued countless yellows for dissent.
I play sunday league, I have played Saturday and week day as well. I have also managed a team at under 11,12 and 13. I have been a lino and had to ref a game more then once. So have seen plenty of idiots shouting abuse at refs and even hitting them. I have even had a fully grown man run up to me right in my face and call me a twat. This happened when I was 10/11 and had to fill in as a lino for my dad (who was ref). But all that is to a persons face and I agree all that has to stop. But this is on a forum.
Tom, or should of I say Mr Pot, why is it ok for you to use abusive language about other situations, but you want it not used against a referee (not to his face) during a match thread on a football forum. You need to look at the walls of your glass house.
And that is the right thing to do. This isn't an amateur football match. You can't have one rule for one situation and then change it for another.
Guys, I honestly think there's a danger of making a situation out of something that really doesn't need getting in a fuss about. I understand Tom is a ref, so of course will be defensive (and rightly so) about the officials at a game. His input when it comes to decisions is, in turn, both interesting and on occasion rather funny! That's the beauty of it. However you can't get all het up about calling a ref a tosser on a football forum on one hand, then on the other call someone like Diego Costa all the names under the sun when he kneecaps another player. It's an emotive sport that generates emotional response. That's why we love it. But there's no kittens that will die if we suggest a ref engages in self-pleasure, much as nobody will (or should) lose any sleep over calling Robbie Savage a "**** pundit".
All I can say Tom is that it is a bloody good thing that you can't issue cards on here. This is probably the only place where you can express your opinion and not expect to be slated for it!! Have a different opinion by all means, swear if it makes you feel better. But your opinion is as good or bad as any other and this Forum gives you the chance to express it. You shouldn't take it personal what is said on here as it is certainly not directed at you or all referee's in general. You have already acknowledged there is good and bad yourself. A view shared by most I would suspect.
Right, I'm off to watch the whole match again on the big TV. I think a couple of whiskies might be in order. Cheers.
Yes I would agree it would seem that way.....but he is entitled to his opinion and the chance to express it, just as you are! Just don't take it to heart......
