Advocaat has resigned.

 

Agree with all of you of course, the front 3 get the headlines, but the defending for the last half an hour was masterful as well. It wasn't like the 1-1 v Chelsea last season when they peppered us. Their only chance was Falcao's dive*.

On top of all that, Ron had a brilliant game with his tactical half time sub.

Tadic should have squared though.





*the ref had a terrible first half but redeemed himself there with the decision of the weekend.

 

That's the best decision he's made in a while.

 

I've watched the highlights over and over, and every time it comes to that moment, with Davis in acres of space to the right, I'm screaming "look up, look up!" It's completely unlike Tadić, who normally does look up all the time, and is supremely unselfish.

About the only quibble in a magnificent display.

 

He probably saw it was Davis and thought "Hell no! He's not going to score twice in one game"

 

You're right, in retrospect he should have passed it. But given that not everything came off for him yesterday, and given that his unpredictability is also one of his major strengths [along with that renowned vision] and given that he was also in a pretty good position himself, I'll forgive him. It was only Terry throwing himself in the way that stopped a goal, after all. The trajectory of the shot had it going into the right corner and had Terry been a little faster [his lack of pace aided him there] he would have slid past and the ball would have gone behind him. Never mind Dusan.

No, I agree, he could easily have scored, as Begovic was not going to get near the shot. And, of course, Davis might possibly have missed (hard to believe, but it has happened!)

 

Should have left last season after keeping Sunderland up...retired on a positive note.

 

He strikes me as a nice guy, and perhaps sentiment and a willingness to help made him decide to stay on. Like you say, he shouldn't have.

Davis said he was saving his goal till it was important.

He definitely has his head up and spots Davis, but the dummy was clever.
As you said in a later comment. It was only Terry's massive backside(no doubt made bigger from recent bench sitting) that stopped the goal

 

Hopefully he won't keep us waiting quite so long for the next one

 

I saw it slightly differently after a couple of watches, SD dragged a couple of defenders towards him, which left the space for Dusan to try the shot, it was a great defensive block that prevented a goal.
