I've done no research into the odds or strongest candidates, I was hoping the collective knowledge of the fine footballing brains on this forum would provide the insight required.

    Who's the bookies fave?

He won't get sacked, but lose to/ fail to beat Norwich and Sunderland then for many his position will be untenable. I feel for McClaren as he has inherited deadwood like Coloccini, Sissoko and Gouffran, but a manager is ultimately judged on results. If we don't pick up 6 points from the next two games then we are in trouble.

We are rock bottom and deserve it. Karma is paying Mike Ashley, Lee Charnley and Graham Carr a visit. To fail to overhaul a squad that was nearly relegated is incompetence. To appoint another fall guy to take the heat is criminal. RIP NUFC.

let's get Carver in, hey.. maybe Pardew or Shearer or even Keegan...
Better still.. we should appoint a couple of toon fans off twitter as they seem to want constant change and know all of the answers...

Not McClarens biggest fan, but he has inherited a shocking squad. It looks as though we have wasted money on Thauvin when we should have bought defenders. McClaren doesn't have a chance with people like Coloccini and Sissoko as guarateed starters.

I don't think he was the right choice but he has to dig in and find a way forwards, they have two weeks to get their heads together and sort out a plan, the first half showed that they can compete if they try, it's catch 22 at the moment as no manager is going to take on a team performing at this level so badly when they can't recruit new players to make changes until January, you also have to think that if McClaren doesn't get something out of these guys before then, then we are down with no chance of survival unless Ashley spends something like £200 million.

Ultimately it is down to Ashley and the last 5 years of disjointed and penny wise player recruitment, with the increase in tv money over the last 2 years the mid table sector has improved immensely something that has been a failure at our club thanks to the policies that Ashley has imposed, consider would you have rather bought Cabaye back or as the club did invest in the unproven Thauvin, Mitrovic or a few million more for Austin, maybe we should have brought Ba back, all things that could have been achieved except that it didn't fit with Ashley's policies.

I'd take the job and have a go, even on Pardew's pay deal I would be so happy.

The recruitment policy is the problem. You buy unproven youngsters to bed in with experienced pros that can help them develop. We don't have that so promisibg youngsters are a luxury.

The squad is not great, but we haven't got the right manager. Looking at the squad, can anybody seriously tell me the likes of West Brom, Villa, Watford, Bournemouth etc are better? They aren't.

McLaren and his ye olde version of possession football is not suited to the staff at his disposal! You all bemoaned hoofball Pardew. Guess what, it ****ing worked. You cannot make a sows ear into a purse.

Sack him ASAP and bring in Bruce or Pulis. It's garbage football, but at least effective.

As much as he looks like the mashed beaks, ringpieces and feet of chicken before they become chicken nuggets, and as wasteful as he is in the transfer window, if ever he were to manage us, the time is now. Wherever he has gone, whatever sideways move he has made, he always overachieves until someone gives him transfer money (not a problem here).

We need an organiser, a results-orientated ogre, if we are to stay up. Depends entirely whether you believe there is any point to fighting it under Ashley though, which I don't really!
