Having witnessed a far better 2nd half performance with two up front, is there a case for changing from just CJ starting as alone striker? That is of course assuming the rest of the team play the way they did for 40 minutes today.
Probably not because of how vulnerable we were at the back when we changed to that shape. Not that we were looking secure before that.
Leicester are very much the exception as they don't look to dominate the midfield (we had 66% of the possession). Instead relying on quick through passes or accurate long balls to their front two players. Once they were given the penalty, they could play to their strengths and sit back to fend off our advances and counter-attack all day long. Mbokani made all the difference when he came on and Leicester panicked a bit. It was the right response from AN, but we'd be slaughtered if we played 4-4-2 against other PL teams.
Today's issue was defence not attack Olson should be at Left Back with Brady in front of him they could cover each other Starting to think Jarvis may be an over complication Whittaker and Howson made far too many errors and Redmond should have started
Brady looked excellent in defence today. I also don't see the left as our weakness, wisdom looked good when he was playing at right back.
I would like to see a lot more of Wisdom, I'm not against Whittaker but I just thought we looked better with Wisdom in the side.
We looked far more threatening when a) Redmond came on and b) we went 4-4-2. Our build up play was too laboured today - we didn't move the ball quick enough and we were brutally exposed by Leicester's high energy pressing and swift counters. I think there are times when 4-4-2 would work but we do need the correct midfield combination to ensure we get the most of the formation and that means probably sacrificing Wes.
I'd argue that we went 4-3-3 with Redmond Jerome and Mbokani up front but I agree Redmond should be starting at home so Dorrans will be the one to miss out.
I'd like to see this against the Baggies Ruddy Wisdom Brady Rusty Bassong Redmond Howson Tettey Jarvis Mbokani Jerome Gives us pace down the flanks but does mean we would miss Wes and his creative spark (although this was snuffed out mostly today).
Quite a bold selection OCF and can't find much to disagree with. I was expecting some more changes than we saw yesterday, especially after AN's comments in the press a day or so earlier. Personally, for the WBA I would like to see Mbokani start with Lafferty and have Jerome on the bench and agree that Whittaker is to intent on attacking and so leaves exposed at the back. It's likely that Mulumbu will be fit to play at least part of the game and we have Vadi back as well. Quite a selection headache!!!
