They have had things to easy for to long.......maybe they will have to recall some of the thirty odd players they have out on loan..........
The rugby sure isn't helping! Important two weeks here, we can call Mick whatever and be as annoyed as we are - I'm far from happy but the madness of this division is we're STILL 3 points off the play offs. It's been a mixed start to the season, 20% gone and we're one win away from top 6. Form until Brighton was superb, wind the clock back and Knudsen was class, we were looking fluid, everything was going well. 1 win in 7 ( I think the Man Utd game is included ) however and things aren't quite so rosy. So no, I won't be calling for Mick's head but like the rest of you I hope he can really open his eyes and have a good hard think. Berra/ Murphy, sorry boys not good enough this season we need more from you. Fraser / Bishop we need fit every game. NEED to work out a way to line McGoldrick up. So here's to the next section of the season. Onwards and upwards, it's never easy being a town fan that's for sure.
I've yet to be convinced Knudssen was ever class, too many old reliables (Berra,Murphy etc)not firing on all cylinders, same old problem with lack of creative spark in midfield.........
Just finished watching the rugby, it appears no team I support can perform at the moment. Anyway, only seen result, line up and the BBC report. My thoughts are summed up as this. Why make changes but not change the real problem areas - Douglas, RB, CBs and gk. No point tweaking the attack - I remain unsure what Murphy's fitness levels are - if defence is sieve like.
This is what Gary Bowyer said after the match. Not sure if he was just being generous, but made me feel a bit better about it anyway! "I think it's probably the most complete performance since I've been in charge. "We came out of the traps ever so well, scored two goals very quickly and continued to play some excellent stuff. "We got to half-time and knew with the firepower Ipswich have got, that we were going to be under the cosh in the second half and that proved to be the case. "We still created some great chances but the resilience we showed, to come out of that game with a clean sheet - Ipswich are going to be right up there this season - it's very, very difficult to pick out any one individual."
It's really tough at the moment because if like myself you don't really warm towards Micks style and approach to football, when we look so powder puff defensively there really seem to be very few positives. It's particularly frustrating when the midfield offer nothing. We've never been great in posession under Mick but you accept this as we were so good out of posession and at the moment we are neither. I'm not too concerned as we're only 3 points off the playoffs and looking back to last season I think we're in a far better position than we were but I've never seen us so powder puff at the back under Mick and it's not just 1 game it's been for a while. I also think but have thought this for a long time if we're really going to be an effective team in possession and make that next step our central midfield needs a culture change
These frailties in defence are a carry over from the second half of last season, we needed to get some quality in during the close season and although money was there ( £8M+ for Mings ) we didn't pursue McGhee the Hearts defender when we could have got him or anyone else for that matter. It is possible to unearth some diamonds from the lower leagues and free transfers but there is a reason why no one else wants these players, quality costs and if we are serious about improving on last season we need to spend some money or we will just get more of the same.
