The only thing that really pissed me off before the 6 goals went it was starting with Gouffran, I literally have no idea what McClaren was thinking of.

If you're going to ****ing take a risk and play 2 up top vs City, you NEED two defensive midfielders centrally.

There's no way you can leave Anita at the back on his own away at City. I know we were the better team in the first half and could have been 2/3-0 up, but still, you could smell that once City got out of first gear, it was going to be tough to stop the goals flying in.

However!!! - I'm not going to despair. We nearly always get hammered by City away, and I think we just got caught off guard, and after the 6th goal, we kept them from completely decimating us.

But one things for sure - WE NEED to get AT LEAST 4 pts from our next two games, or we are ****ed.

Krul - 5 - Couldn't really do a whole lot about any of the goals.

Janmaat - 3 - Caught out positionally too often. Lead to the first goal.

    Colo - 2 - ****

    Mbemba - 3 - Not quite as ****, but still ****.

Mbabu - 4 - Good start, but truly out of his depth later on.

    Anita - 3 - Completely raped.

Gouffran - 2 - Shouldn't have been on the pitch.

Sissoko - 3 - Good first half, fell away as the goals flew in.

Perez - 5 - Good runs and dribbles but couldn't do anything in the 2nd half. Poor lad.

Mitrovic - 5 - Good goal, boss in the first half, disappeared in the 2nd.

Winaldum - 5 - Good assist, and very good in first half.

Tiote - 4 - Came on after the collapse. Decent defending.

    Thauvin - 3 - Poop.

McClaren - 4 - His plan almost worked in the first half. We just didn't take the chances. His idea to start Gouffran was stupid though. I also don't understand bringing Thauvin on.

Norwich and Sunderland games are vital now. As Tash says 4 points are an absolute must

This game well and truely showed our defence is woeful and Colo must go. If Penfold can't see we need defenders first and foremost in January then Championship beckons. He needs to get his targets sorted NOW and bring them in on the opening days of the transfer window otherwise it'll be too late.

Aren't we now at a point where statistically we'd be the first team EVER to escape the drop after this kind of start? If we're beaten by the mackems, we're done.

How many games would you have said we were favourite for before kick off?

Honestly out of the 8 I'd say 1 or 2 at most. We've played last seasons top 4 plus Swansea (A), West Ham (A). How many points were people expecting from those games? If you'd offered me 5 I'd have taken it. We should have got more points from Southampton (H) but I think it was one of those "first game of the season so lets be happy" points and we were massively disappointing against Watford (H).

People are quick to say we're down but I'd have only had us on around 8 points at this stage anyway. Sunderland have had a much nicer fixture list so far (as have some of the others only just above us), I've seen some positives from our recent performances.

    Maybe I'm just ****ing nuts.

Look, we have easily had the hardest start of any premier league team, playing basically all the top teams in one go. The problem is Watford were in the middle, and so battered in terms of moral are the players, they lost that too. Our team isn't 20th place quality, it just isn't. However, we do have the worst manager and zero confidence.

I'm not saying we're midtable quality either like. We are ****e, just about 15th-17th kinda ****e.

There's a deeper problem than quality of team, manager, or moral. Has to be. 5 goals in 15 minutes is something from the Bora-Bora league. It doesn't even happen in Scotland ffs. That's the difference for me. We're just one of those where on paper we shouldn't go down, but how many of those have there been over the years?

Matalan have a deal on cheap bedsheets.
Judging by some of the knee jerk reaction on twitter they will go out of stock soon.
FFS, we have played what, 8 games, 4 against the top 4. We have a new team, manager and formation.
Anyone expect to beat city today?
No.. well why are some on Twitter (I stress not on here lads) acting like they expected to hammer the billionaires on their own turf? some honestly do ffs. It's triple facepalm time at times on there.
If we had beaten them today.. there would still be moaners, I ****ing guarantee it.
we now start to judge our team.

    Out of just 30.
The difficulty we have with all things NUFC is it's always "the manner" in which we do things. We were as good as we've been for a LONG time for 40 minutes and Steve isn't lying when he says we should have been 3-0 up. Watch the "offside", you'll never see a worse decision in your life when Mitro made it 2-0. He should have had a hat-trick, but I still feel we would have lost; when you spend a billion quid you have the ability to get goals, and when our d1cks at the top spend a couple of quid on a contract for Colo, you're always fcked.

Let's hope we're hovering out of the zone in January, so we have to buy defenders. Get a refund on Thauvin and go buy players with a spine. And I'm still not sure why McLaren needed a reminder that Gouffran is utter sh1t.

Yeah, but we're a top club - we like to give a few other teams a head start before our surge to, ummm, 16th?

I just want you to know Albert if we don't pick up at least 4 points from the next two games we are arse bleeding ****ed. I'm sorry to break it down in such crude terms but needs must when our team is in such bollock straits.

I'm not really that bothered yet. Tough opening games and we were decent against Chelsea, and today for 40 minutes at least we looked good and remember we will not be facing Man City and Sergio Aguero every game. So there are some encouraging signs and I think our season starts here. I'll be bothered if we don't get at least 10 points from the next 6 games though. I think we may well need to spend heavily again in the January transfer window though in order to stay up if we are still languishing in the bottom 4/5 come the new year. Ashley WILL spend if we are in danger although whether we spend well is another matter. It's going to be a long season, though.

Don`t agree mate. I think we`re both screwed.

You have an owner who doesn`t give a ****. We have an owner who does give a **** but doesn`t have a clue.

We`ll still have the derbies but not in this division. Not sure we have enough players between the two of us to make a team capable of survival.

2013-14 After 8 games: Palace with 3 points and -11 GD after 8 games, Sunderland below them with 1 point and -15 GD: Both stayed up (Palace comfortably)

    http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/premier-league/2013-2014/table/2013-10-21

The year before Southampton were on 4 points after 8 games with a much easier fixture list. They also avoided the drop.

The season we last went down, at this stage of the season we were kept off bottom spot by Spurs who had 2 points from 8 games. They finished 8th! (although, only fair to point out they sacked Juande Ramos after 8 games and replaced him with Harry Redknapp).

The point is though, it is far far too early to be giving up and saying we are down. It is also far too early to be wanting people sacked. There are loads of examples of teams that have had far far worse starts (deeper into the season too) who have escaped relegation. We have had a horrible start which isn't totally unexpected with a new manager and a very difficult fixture list.

The majority of fans wanted Pardew out. He went. We now have to give his permanent successor a chance - and time! If we don't then to be honest we deserve everything we get! The fact that some fans on Twitter are already writing off McClaren after only eight games is frankly embarrassing!
