It is! But my point (which may have gotton muddled from my earlier posts) is that we've been told similar, if not the same thing for many seasons. Yes we have money, yes we will spend. Yes the money from Ade and Toure is available, yes we can use it. Yes there's £30m+ to use and so on. I'm just tired of it. Could well be that this season we finally go out and buy a few players we sorely need but my cynicism is well founded. To date, the only substantial signing is on a player in a position that I'd argue we need to fill least of all. I don't want to bash Gervinho as I'm sure he'll be a good signing but I'd rather that cash went where it's needed more. I'd be upset if we missed out on a quality LB/CB/DM or forward because we were £10m short.
You think Barcelona and Real Madrid ALONE couldn't attract enough Media/Sponsorship/Backing from around the world to fund an alternative to the Champions League? Behave. Arsenal have spent huge sums to establish themselves as contenders, and then maintained massive budgets to stay there, not an easy thing to do of course. To get back to the point, AFC have, not one but two, £Multi-Billionaires, they CAN compete should they CHOOSE to, and as a result sound like moaning hypocrites when they cry about other more successful Clubs(currently)outspending them
I do hear hear you JJ. We have heard similar before. But the key difference for me is that Gazidis and Wenger have said that they are working on deals already. Out of the media spotlight they may be, which for me is a better way to do business, but inevitably it doesn't satisfy the hungry fan who wants to hear what's happening. I think we need to wait until the end of this transfer window to assess the credibility of Gazidis' words. I just get sick of the fans who immediately jump on anything that the club say (not including you in this) because we're not spending money like Man City.
That's exactly what I'm saying. Because a lot of clubs are very much IN FAVOUR of the rules, there will be no breakaway, especially (as previously stated) Germany, and France, and most likely Italy too live within their means and thus wouldn't want to break away!! A couple of teams from Spain and a couple of teams from England does not a tournament make. The owners aren't injecting any more money. They bought shares, and that's it. No cash injections, because they will contravene the rules. The most the owners could do is pay off the debt. But how is that in their favour? It's manageable and won't make them any more money. In fact, they'll lose money if they pay it off. They're perfectly content with how things are now, and so am I, and the vast majority of reasonable fans. I'd like signings, but I believe they'll come.
Yes he is saying that but hes also getting his excuses in by mentioning Man City, which i find really annoying. They might have loads of money but they wont buy every single player that we go for, that is just insulting our intelligence. We have made some fundamental mistakes for the past few years by not strengthening key areas. The last time we did it was with Arshavin. Unfortunately that was primarily driven by monetary reasons (us not finishing in the top 4 and not getting champs league money).
No cash injections, because they will contravene the rules. The most the owners could do is pay off the debt. But how is that in their favour? It's manageable and won't make them any more money. In fact, they'll lose money if they pay it off. So they pay off the debt, release £30M a year, and use that to buy Players of the calibre of Fabregas/Nasri/van Persie That is within their scope, they could do it, but CHOOSE not to And the FFPR you are so sure will enable you to compete in the future (wishful thinking I'm afraid) will not be breached. To hear AFC whinge abou t being unable to compete, with the 60,000 most expensive seats in World Football and Two £Multi-Billionaires is grating on me. As an Arsenal Fan, YOU should be furious!
Mentioning Man City is not an excuse, it's a reality of the financial landscape that most football clubs have to compete with. Other than Chelsea and to an extent Man Utd (although they do have huge income from their business operations) nobody else can really compete with billionaire injected cash. I think we should be applauding our club for keeping us right in the mix on what is, a comparatively small budget. No mean feat, given the fact that most footballers will take a £200k per week contract to play for City over a £65k per week one to play for Arsenal.
To be honest, this sounds a bit like Gazidis telling Wenger to stop dicking around, and spend some of the money. It also sounds like he's trying to placate the fans. If it's true, and we actually are trying to sign players, then it's a welcome statement for me. However, as has been said already on this thread; we've been here before...
I am very happy at the way we are run and think its the right way to go about things. But if we have had money in the past and now, then we should buy what we need. There are many players that are attracted to us and many that we can afford both in transfer and wages, but there seems to be an overwhelming stubborness to do so. Lets just hope we buy a few players to freshen up what we have, like all the top teams are doing, otherwise i can see a difficult season ahead for us....
Any Manager, in any industry, who fails to exploit every resource at his disposal, and subsequently fails to deliver success, shouldn't be in that job. If Wenger has chosen not to spend money made available to him, you have to wonder just what his Job Description is.
Yup, because that money that they could use to pay off the debt is most likely tied up in other companies or bonds or other forms of income generation. Just because you're a billionaire doesn't mean you have hundreds of millions just sitting in an instant access bank account. That's their net worth if they sold everything, not their current bank balance. Why don't I pay off my student loan? Because the interest I'm paying on it is less than the interest I'm accruing on the money I could use to pay it off - thus I'm making a nett gain. Same goes for Kroenke. The Arsenal loans are at VERY low rates, so why pay them off? It doesn't make any economic sense, and he's a businessman
It's The same with my mortgage, if I choose to pay it all off now, the terms of the loan would mean that I would be financially punished. I would also lose a significant amount of my immediate capital, which is accruing money elsewhere. So it makes more sense to pay off this loan over the long term at a low interest rate. I'm not interested in using up my equity to buy a shiny new BMW, just because my neighbours do so. It might give me some short term satisfaction, but in a few years time, it will be worth less than half of what I've paid for it and the money could have been used to pay off my debt. So it's not a sustainable route to take. I'm more interested in long term stability than short term satisfaction.
Check out Karl - Heinz Rumenegge's latest shot across the bows! UEFA/FIFA have no power any more, well they do, but only that which the Top European Clubs will allow them
I am not a Citeh fan mate. But if are seriously suggesting that they are not one of the most powerful Clubs in the world, you are living in cloud cuckoo land.
To me, City have ' on paper ' strengths. Realistically, had Arsenal been more productive in the final run-up City would not have finished in the top three. Having some of the biggest names does not guarantee proportionate success. TBH I don't think City would rate amongst the top most powerful performing clubs in the world unless they can show some consistency. Money does not equal consistency. My humble 2c of course.
Citeh have financial clout, that is all. They have no influence and are not highly regarded. They do not have the clout around Europe that the other named clubs have or even other members of the old G14 (which is what most of your list is bar Citeh and Chelsea), like Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, PSV, Porto, Bayer Leverkusen, Valencia.
City rather reminds me of Toyota F1. Anyone remember them? Back in their early years, just about every pundit by which I mean hack and those who hack it in the pits were saying that the winners down the line were not Ferrari, Mclaren or anyone else but Toyota F1. There was money, investment and names. Perhaps not the biggest of names but names which could have made it to the top. Where are they now? Toyota pulled out, citing money reasons. Similarly, if City don't perform I very much doubt if the money would last.
Mad Citeh are one of the most Powerful Clubs in World Football right now. Forget the lack of success over generations that counts for nothing, it is ALL about money at the top level of Football. And in terms of how Football is shaped in the coming decade, they will be at the forefront. Not a dig at Arsenal, who are a great Club, but you are not going to be as things stand.
Arsenal are one of the most valuable clubs in world football. Once we have finished paying off our stadium debt we will be more than financially secure. Difference between Arsenal vs Citeh is that Arsenal have a well run, stable and secure financial platform for the future while Citeh have a billionaire owner who Might guarantee short term success. I know which one I would rather have at the cost of a few trophyless years.
