I have always been impressed on the few occasions that I have managed to see Lee Holmes play, thats more to do with his fitness than my attendance It looks from all the pre-season coverage on Saints Player that he is playing well at the moment. He provided both crosses for Connelly's goals against FC Biel, one with either foot and from the right wing. He also seems to be taking the corners when on the pitch, and Jaidi nearly scored from one last night. A quality player that will seem like a new signing if we can keep him fit....
I think most people will be in agreement with this - when we were in the Championship last time around he looked good when fit so fingers crossed the new regime can look after him. Question though, is there room for Adam, Oxo and Holmes in the same line up?
i think holmes can be used as first backup for both lallana and chamberlain, that way he would get a decent amount of game time when either winger is rested or injured, and we still won't be relying on him which means if he picks up an injury it won't be devastating to the team
it would be great for the squad if he is fit, as it gives us options. Quality, but don't believe he'll play more than 6 games.
Glad he's doing well at the moment because it's been a rubbish couple of years for him. He's one of only a few players that stuck around after the administration saga and has seen the club go from the brink of extinction to where we are today. Also, along with Schneiderlin, they are the only two players signed by Jan Poortvliet that still remain at the club. I understand that in the last two years, Lee has done quite a lot of ambassador and charity work for the club as well, a nice guy of the pitch it seems. Wish him the best of luck this coming season!
In alot of the articles on the OS it mensions him a lot and how he has impressed or stood out in training and in the matches.
As you say, he will seem like a new signing and gives us strength on the wings where we might have lacked quality last season when oxo and lallana were out injured
Lee only gets injured in the LAST week of pre-season, so don't get too carried away people. Got some class but made of glass. (hope he shoves those words down my pessimistic throat!)
We all know of the quality he has and we must remember he is still young if he stays fit the he develop well I think!
I'll wait until at least the end of August until I start to get too excited! But for sure, the lad has quality. And he has one quality in particular that everyone else (bar Lambert) in our squad seems to lack - he can deliver a decent set-piece!!
Good player if fit lets hope he can accumalate some games and really show us his undoubted ability good luck to him.Just an trivial observation mind do you think he could be the bandiest legged playerever to have graced the british game he must be a great target for the nutmeg
Big fan of Holmes whenever he has played. Decent pace, cracking delivery. Always feel like I have this discussion in pre season though. Then he'll play against Bremen next week and break/tear/destroy his leg/knee/ligaments/chance for the season. Hope he doesn't though, cover on the flanks would be superb!
On another note, does anybody remember Jan Poortvliet comparing him to Arjen Robben?! Here's the link to the old Echo story, makes me laugh! http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/2325853.Saints_new_signing_can_be__new_Robben_/
Holmes is a good championship player when he is fully fit. It's mad to think he is still only 24 years old. He deserves a bit of luck, and would be like a new signing if he can stay fit.
