That's as maybe and we will never know for sure but it's not a reason to should be holding on to an incredibly expensive, potentially very dangerous (As in accidental detonation) and ultimately completely unethical weapon.
I'll admit to being a younger guy who is being a bit ideological in his views but the facts that ideology is looked down upon is exactly the problem with modern politics. You need people that are looking for a better future (Corbyn) in order to progress as a country. I totally get why people are worried about Labour with Corbyn in charge, but you have to agree that there has been no real opposition to the right wing policies of the last 10-15 years! If anything I am a centralist because I think that everything can be discussed and a middle ground can be found. I actually think that a labour/con coalition would be the strongest thing we could have in this country as we'd have a true social ideals; with the backing of the corporate elite. Unlikely to happen but a view for the future that could be agreed upon by both sides is surely where we should be aiming for, rather than just dismissing opinions and ideals out of hand because they are being presented under a banner that you don't agree with. Until we can stop thinking about things as one side or the other, we can't be a united country. The problem is the Tories tend to oppose any compromise and make out like any "Left wing" Policies would destroy this country, which is a complete fallacy!
Well good luck in finding the centre ground between a wealthy and powerful elite determined to hang on to what they have and indeed increase it and the rest of the population. I was pointing out BTW that the use of the atom bomb by the USA was not necessarily the most costly option in human terms. I agree on not replacing Trident.
Why is it that Right Wing parties survive on fear? That is how the Conservatives won and it is forever what the Republicans do although less successfully recently. The same goes for other countries.
Sad to say but it's because there are more than enough stupid/gullible/ignorant/God fearing people around to fall for it all hook, line and sinker so it's generally an easy win for them - as long as you don't mind lying that is, which is something the right-wing has always taken in its stride.
Their conference is pretty sickening. Admiral's son Jeremy Hunt saying cutting benefits will make the poor work harder. "Like China". Is that really the model we aspire to for Britain?
Pretty ironic that they are accusing Corbyn of being radically left wing whilst at the same time are signing deals with China and now apparently have aspirations to be just like them.
Aren't we so lucky to have such a caring Chancellor, somebody give this ****er a Heart of Gold http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...tax-credits-says-george-osborne-a6679636.html
Just ****ing ridiculous. Bold-facedly lying in order to take away more and more from those that need it most! How can anyone believe his bullshit? He has no interest in helping the poor. He just hopes that enough will die off or lose interests before 2020 so he can jump out of the failing ship and take a big fat pay cheque with him! The Tories would rather destroy this country for their own and their mates profits rather than try and help the most vulnerable. There is no care. There are no morals or ethics. Just selfishness, greed and corruption. But hey, lets just all pretend like everything is perfect, lets look at less developed countries and say "At least we've got it better than them!". That way we don't have to try for a better tomorrow, we can just hope we die before the worse tomorrow arrives.
I don't see how taking money away from people will make them work harder. Spin it how you will in my experience people are generally more motivated by the chance of earning more than by the threat of earning less unless they work harder. Comparing us to the US and china is not helpful. China is a very low wage economy and so naturally they will produce more per £ of labour cost than the UK. Similarly the Us has a huge number of people holding down two or three minimum wage jobs and they only get two weeks paid leave per year. I can't imagine anyone over here wanting to sign up to either of those models. I do understand the ultimate rationale of the policy in that the aim is for companies to pay their workers sufficient in their pay packet so that the Government does not have to effectively subsidise employers by topping up earnings with tax credits. If the policy is taken that way by raising the NMW to the living wage for all large corporations immediately then this would immediately put the resultant PAYE and NI straight into the national coffers and also take individuals out of the welfare system stopping a drain on the system. It would also mean that the notorious tax dodgers such as Amazon/E-bay/Apple/StarBucks etc etc would be paying more in tax immediately regardless of how well their lawyers and accountants can avoid them paying Corporation Tax. I personally think it is crazy that the taxpayer is subsidising people to work for hugely profitable multi-nationals. Crazy and disgraceful. If it were up to me I'd hit these companies with this legislation immediately and get people off tax credits because they no longer need them. Any company with more than 250 employees sorry but you have to pay the living wage straight away. Same result just way less kicking of the people at the bottom end of the employment ladder. I would then roll out a more gradual phasing in of the new enhanced rates for SME's to give them a bit of breathing space which hopefully should solve even more of the problem with less pain to either the employees or their employers. I know that some sectors will struggle to cope with this but if we are talking about the care sector then bluntly the Government are in a position to sort this out by financing care fully. I find it really frustrating that a policy concept - getting people off tax credits by enhancing their wages to the point they no longer need them - which I imagine most reasonable people would agree with has been made into a dogs dinner by doing things in an order that backs the large corporations and hits the low paid in the immediate term. Sorry for the rant chaps but I do feel a bit better for it. Now off for a lie down.
This has the potential to be the most right wing government ever. Thatcher was handicapped in her attempt to stitch up the unemployed due to the public perception that most of them were there because of her policies but Dave doesn't have that problem. I noticed that in his interview with Jon Snow on C4 last night he was asked if he would protect the working poor from loss of income, He uses this device of speech where he says "No" but masks it in a way that he sounds as if he isn't saying it. Paddy McGee would be too good for this lot.
Teresa May yesterday. What a deeply unpleasant angry little Englander she is. Pray to whatever sky pixies you believe in that she never ever gets to be PM as she is clearly pitching her leadership of the Tories to the dark side of the right wing. In fairness her becoming Conservative leader may be Labours only hope with Corbyn's Obi-Wan to her Darth Vader - you'll know I'm right if JC is told the news of her election by a message delivered by an R2 unit.
The way I see it there are two types of people who vote for them, there are those dumb enough to fall for the lies and propaganda, and there are those who's attitude could be summed up in just three words - "I'm alright Jack" (not that they'd ever admit it). That's the way I see it anyway, feel free to disagree.
The trouble with that sentiment is that there are a number of people in the middle that are not hogging disproportionate amounts of wealth who strive for themselves and their family for a better life who may not like inequalities in the nation but believe that opportunity for most is there and perhaps if they strived a little more they would get what they feel they are owed. And those people maybe just maybe feel that all their work and endeavor is benefited a little more by a tory government, not because of propaganda or dumbness but because Labour policy lead to their business struggling and their family and there friends having less? You can flippantly call it "I'm alright Jack" but no one else gifts the strivers things. I know people of great generosity to friends, family and charities who vote Tory. They don't vote tory because they like a party who shafts the truly needy, they just remember when Labour f#@ked up the country and made everyone else a little more needy. Is it alright to vote against Labour if it becomes you that is not allright Jack? If your business is on the verge of going under and you suffer a nervous breakdown? But lets still vote Labour cause someone else will get a tiny amount more benefits! A very stupid generalization Munky, that fails to recognize that all parties have effects good and bad, and not everyone will fit snuggly into your rather one eyed tosh! Bah!
The way I see it there are two types of people who vote for Labour, there are those dumb enough to fall for the lies and propaganda, and there are those who's attitude could be summed up in just five words - "I want something for nothing" (not that they'd ever admit it). That's the way I see it anyway, feel free to disagree. Jeremy Corbyn has called for an end to "personal abuse" in his first speech to the Labour Party Conference as leader. My Corbyn urged delegates to "treat people with respect" and said there would be "no rudeness from me". "Cut out the personal abuse, cut out the cyber-bullying and especially the misogynistic abuse online and let's get on with bringing real values back into politics", he said.
So Cameron is saying today that India doesn't need any aid from the UK any more. This is just 8 months after a Commons committee deemed aid to India to be absolutely necessary
