From what I've heard the 1970 team was better than the 66 one, so I'd say that one anarl. We came 3rd in the 1968 Euros, so that one too...
Whilst I know what you mean, Italia 90 was now over a quarter of a century ago - I wouldn't consider that lately any more. Obviously in comparison to 66 it is, but it's been a long while.
It has though it seems like yesterday Its sad that the Richest league in the world just makes the numbers at tournaments
Sounds good unless you know there were only 4 teams in the finals. We lost our first game which was the semi-final and won the third place play off game. I thought that overall the 1970 team was a better one than the 1966 one. Losing to Germany after leading 2-0 was the most gutted I have felt after a football match other than a City one.
Trouble is most of the best players in the richest league aren't eligible to play for England. That was the case for a long time when every successful team had a number of Scots and the likes of Best and a number of Welsh players who couldn't play for England.
It pains me to say this but England are becoming the new Scotland, always high expectations but can never deliver with supporters who are loyal but, sadly, deluded.
Just the sorry state the England side is in. The best of a bad bunch... For me, Hart Clyne Stones Smalling Bertrand Milner Carrick Barkley Ox/Walcott Vardy Sterling
I'd remove carrick and milner and promote loftus-cheek and ward prowse. I dont see the point in gibbs either. Bertrand is far better and hopefully Baines and Shaw will return who are better. As a back up I'd give Creswell or even Targett a go. Get some youth in - no point playing fodder we know won't improve.
Which is why I said Cresswell first - who is class. The point is we're playing Estonia and Lithuania - who are dog ****. Plus we have already qualified. So why do we have Jones, Gibbs, Carrick, Milner, etc. etc. - Get some youngsters in and see what they can do.
England hasn't had a decent goalie for ages, probably why Hart stands out a bit. You can't put him in the top five compared to goalies that go a long way in the World Cup, Euro competitions and other leagues though, he's not tested when the pressure is really on.
