Last night Rooney was a liability - again. As captain, he of all people, should demonstrate an understanding of how LVG wants the team to play but he can't help himself, he has this impetuous streak that makes him break ranks, rip up the formation and go looking for the ball and ruin the team's formation. He did this on three or four occasions last night and each time it allowed VW to mount a dangerous counter-attack. I don't know what he has on LVG that seems to make him un-droppable, but at the moment he is worse than bad - he is a liability. For whatever reason LVG seems to have to mould the attack specifically to include him which displaces our truly creative players, such as Mata, into positions where they are less effective. I would be very interested to watch a few games with Rooney benched.
Ha ha, I just posted the same thing just now, didn't know someone even created a thread about him. He is a liability, LVG should seriously consider dropping him. Imagine how our attack would look of we have a true no 10 (not mata) playing behind Martial. We should start looking for Rooney's replacement, we can't win titles on sentiments.
Post from my earlier thread. People say he is off form, or not match fit. I think it's all excuse to defend him. It's already October and he's still not match fit. For how long will the team continue to defend him. I wonder what could have happened if we didn't sign martial, we would probably be below the top 4. Now he is no longer playing as the main striker, but let's be honest, does he really even play well behind the striker? Looks like he needs lots of space with no pressure at all to score. He doesn't even create much, mata is the real creator in the team. Martial is even a better creator than Rooney ATM. The only thing he still got is the long passes to the right wing. Let's look at Rooney over the past 2 seasons. POSOTIVE : captain of club and country. NEGATIVES : he has become very slow Stripped of penalty duties. Stripped of free kick duties Stripped of corner kick duties No longer the team's focal point. If people can't see that Rooney is on a serious decline then I wonder how they watch football. For how long will the team continue to carry him, looks like we play with 10 men every game. God forbid martial gets injured then we are going to be in serious danger. I think if he doesn't pick form by the end of October then LVG should seriously start looking for his replacement. We can't win titles with sentiments. Just imagine if we have a true no 10 behind martial, our attack will be one of the best in the league.
FFS talk about shallow fickle fans. Rooney has been our best player for long periods. He may or may not be on a downhill slope. But shouldn't people give him some time? This is the very least he deserves. He didn't have a good match yesterday. He may have lost some form or may need some time to adjust to players like Depay and Martial. A few weeks ago we had people saying that LVG was the one holding back our players and not letting them exert their potential. Now we have the same people saying that our captain is hindering LVG's plans. It would be ****ing hilarious if it were not so bloody stupid.
Leave sentiments aside, Rooney has been a liability for most part of the season so far. I don't care if he has been our best player for some seasons ago, but for the past 2 seasons he has been crap and the only reason he is in the team is because of the armband and to get game time so he can represent England at the euro championship. And I can tell u England would still not make it to the semis because of the same mistake they have been making for years. First sticking with lampard even though he was finished, then it was Gerrard's turn, and now Rooney. Until England start playing players based on merit rather than sentiment, they will continue to struggle. There are better players to play Rooney's role in the england team, but they will still stick with Rooney, and they will flop, and when Rooney retires they stick with another player that that is already finished and the cycle continues.
Was watching the match and there some commercial on or other that Thomas Muller was in. There's your long term replacement, right there! Right now though Rooney plays where he does and stays in the team as we don't have a Thomas Muller in the squad. He's not been so bad that he has to be dropped and is functioning in a winning side. Potentially Herrera could play as an advanced CM instead but for now Rooney should stay in and play his way into the system and form.
Exactly my point. Like I said if he doesn't get his mojo back by the end of October, then management need to start looking for his replacement.
Muller will cost and Rooney is still worth a good amount, sell and get in there for Muller would be a brilliant bit of business. So if you don't mind can you not do that?
Here is Sky's take on Rooney's form - http://www.skysports.com/football/n...till-struggling-for-form-at-manchester-united
The thing is of he manages to score against arsenal the pundits would come out and say otherwise. It's not just about scoring goals, his overall play is no good. I've been saying this for a long time, Rooney is Jack of all trade, master of nothing. He plays as striker, no 10 or cm but he never really masters any of those roles. He totally lacks the technicalities to play as no 10, sorry I'm being blunt but it's the truth. And him being the captain of England would still come back to haunt them because he will be there first on the team list. We all know there are better English players that can play no 10 and striker.
Looking at the big picture: last season, Rooney was the only player worth keeping and playing well under LVG according to the media pundits and many here . Now, he is the worst player in our attack, left behind by our new buys. Remember some of you didn't even think that Martial deserved to play with Rooney? Not saying any of the above is right or wrong but if true the conclusion... LVG must have recruited players of blooming high quality to match or overtake his star player... PS: LVG is now the hero??
Completely agree - and so does much of the knowledgable football press these days. The trouble is he flatters to deceive with all his industry and energy but I'm afraid the consistent end result is missing and has been for some time. Here we are in October and people are still saying that 'he needs time to regain his fitness' and 'is still playing his way into the side' - yes, while he is doing that and we patiently wait for our talisman to hit a five minute vein of form, the likes of Muller are banging them in for fun week after week. For some reason I suspect we still might get good money for him, so why not get rid and bring in someone who doesn't need the club to kiss his arse to make him play - for £300k a week he shouldn't need any more incentive than that. Without him nailed to the team sheet the youngsters would be free to play up front with Mata playing where he ought to be - at No 10.
Not totally dropping him, but taking him off when he's not playing well. Maybe that would keep his head straight.
This is one of the big problems in him being the captain. Regardless of form, hooking him off for whatever reason will always generate problems and or speculation in the media etc. and of course, we all know that when he is unhappy with anything at the club, he and his agent agitate away. This time around though, we should let him go. I would be happy to see Schweinsteiger or Smalling take over the captaincy.
What is it with people that they cannot be satisfied with anything at all ? This is I suppose what happens when one is brought up on non stop success. End up being spoilt and unsatisfied unless the team wins every game 4-0 or 4-1. Do we need to change a winning team because one player is not playing to OUR satisfaction? Can't people not trust LVG to make changes when appropriate ? Now that some fans have accepted that he is not 100% bonkers.
He's been getting worse and worse season after season for atleast 4 years now. As i said when we signed him up to that mega deal, it was a complete waste of money as he was never going to be a player who would hold his form approaching 30. He doesn't live like a proffesional footballer should, he puts on about a stone every time he's injured and has been known to smoke, so should we really be suprised that he is so ****e these days. Fergie even said he's never been a naturally fit and athletic guy, so if you have poor genetics like that you need to look after yourself and be proffesional but sadly Rooney isn't that type of guy. He's never had the proffesionalism of say a Giggs, Ronaldo or a Lampard to maintain high fitness levels later in his career. A huge part of Rooneys game was always his work rate and energy, but take that away and he's half the player he was, and we are starting to see that first hand now. As far as his replacement goes, I think Thomas Muller would be the perfect player for us, however I don't think Bayern would sell at any price, nor do I think Muller would try to force through a move. He's German after all, and he's playing for the best German side, so he has no reason to leave. Players like Muller can't be replaced with any amount of money, that's why I don't think Bayern would be tempted to cash in at any price
