Well, kind of.

Newcastle are set to take a look at Ghanaian left-back Gideon Adu-Peprah over the next two years as they look to provide more first team cover

Newcastle United made an off the radar summer signing when acquiring the services of teenage defender Gideon Adu-Peprah from Manchester City.

The teenager was signed on a free transfer by Newcastle.

The 17-year-old Ghana-born defender has played in two games for Peter Beardsley’s Under-21 side so far after being elevated from the club’s Under-18 pool.

Adu-Peprah, who can play left-back or centre-back, came off with a knock in the 1-1 draw with Swansea City this week at Whitley Park but the injury is not thought to be serious.

Newcastle’s options at left-back are limited at first team level with Massadio Haidara and Paul Dummett both suffering injuries this season.

Adu-Peprah isn’t close to first team contention at the moment but has a two-year contract to show his worth at Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Dummett is close to a return from a hamstring injury.

Kevin Mbabu has slotted in at left-back after Haidara picked up a knee injury.

Unfortuantely, they are all gash! Mbabu had one good game, but he will definatley faulter at some point!
