We should not be spending more than £10m on a player and I like our transfer policy similar to what Arsenal philosophy on and off the pitch 'We don't buy stars, we make them' cheap young talented footballers with great potential.

I don't think the question here is whether we should spend 26m on a player, I think we'd all agree that's too much for anyone in the present financial state of the club. BUT, I think most should agree Gomez is one of the top strikers in the world, and to discount his scoring record because he plays in Germany is one of the most ridiculous things a football fan can say. There's a reason most of the top scorers in the EPL last season were midfielders...because the strikers in England right now are mediocre (on average)

Of course it would just be possible to read that rumnour as being a £26 m transfer of which Jonas formed part. If we hugely over value Jonasat £10m that would leave only . . . no, still far too much to see Ashley sanction

Why do people always say hes rubbish when he has a few bad games for germany in big tournaments and judge him on that, in cas you forgot the whole england squad is gash at every tournament. Wayne rooney who in this market is worth a lot more than gomez went over a year without an international goal, nearly a goal a game in what is belived to be the 3rd best league in the world is pretty dam good. In england we rarely have a player who can score 20 a season

That's why I said I like how we are following Arsenal philosophy Transfer policy young cheap foreign players with great potential and we do have players who score 20 goals a season in the premier league, also bundesliga is 5th best league in the world in my opinion.

My own verdict is if Gomez ever does come to the Premier League he will tear it up! He's a big and powerful lad so he's perfectly suited. This rumour though is utter bollocks so there's no point in even discussing it.

Gomez is a phenomenal player, he had a slow start at Bayern, but he literally took the piss last season.

He averaged over 1 a game in the CL, and whoever said the Bundesliga is a weak league, i'd love them to explain how they came to that conclusion.

A weak league that a Bayern team containing Ribery, Robben, Kroos, Thomas Muller, Klose, Gomes, Badstuber & Lahm could only finish 3rd in?

Where Werder Bremen with the likes of Marin, and Wolfsburg with Diego were in relegation battles?

Not only is it a strong leagu, it's similar to England in style, Gomez would be a staggering signing for you, but as you've all said, never happen.

(i'm holding badger to that statement as compensation if he does like..)

What leagues do reckon occupy 1st to 4th then?

    I'd say:

    1. Premier League (top 8/10 teams are strong)
    2. Bundesliga (open for title races)
    3. Serie A (has opened up for title races)
    4. La Liga (too often a two horse race)
    5. Ligue 1 (getting better)

As an honorary mention as I've only opted for the top tiers in the respective countries I'd nominate CCC as a very good competitive league.

I'd still put La Liga above Serie A, but i'd agree with the rest.

I'd say someone like Atletico or Villareal would murder Juve or Roma over 2 legs.

Ligue 1 is getting there slowly.

I agree with both of you, I think the top 5 in Spain would beat the top 5 in Italy in a series, and I hate the politics and issues they've had in Italian football the past few years. But I think there's a legitimate argument to be made for both. I think Bundesliga sometimes gets underestimated because so many Germany players are happy to play domestically (similar to English players), and their games are aired so little in England -- but the overall quality and depth of Germany football is probably only second to England, and possibly if you took away the top few English teams, is comparable the rest of the way down the table.
