Very shocked to read this on the Sporting Life website here. Southwell stewards said in a statement that two racegoers gained entrance into the jockeys' changing room, with the incident referred to the British Horseracing Authority. A stewards' report read: "The stewards held an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding an incident which occurred after the last race in the jockeys' changing rooms after two members of the public gained access, and during which a jockey sustained minor injuries. "They interviewed jockeys Aidan Coleman, Adam Pogson and Tom Scudamore, two of the jockeys' valets, a racecourse medical officer, the clerk of the Course and two members of the racecourse executive. "Having heard their evidence, the stewards passed the matter to the BHA for further consideration."
Shocking stuff. I wonder if they'd been on the sherry all day. People are horrid on racecourses , seem to get the worst in the society. Did stewards decide that it was interference?
I hope they throw the book at them Nass, but they probably won't. Probably had a tenner e/w on his mount and wanted to know why he hadn't flogged it to death to grab a place
It's so sad that racing brings the worst out of people, be it compulsive gambling, heavy drinking, or whatever. Sad to think Jockeys need security at work.
We’ve security at the coalface. Although ‘Big Nige’ has only ever been deployed when the predecessor to what is now Heart FM turned up, for an impromptu visit, one morning and when a delegation from the University of Lincoln descended upon us. Both, unsurprisingly, have never returned! I hope the aggressors, in the above account, all get a lengthy stay in the ‘big house’ but something tells me it will be nothing more than a stern ticking off. No wonder this EU member state is such a laughing stock. Some action is needed though as next time it could be a Corinthian rider!
If someone went into the changing rooms at Chelsea and attacked Eden Hazard it would be the first item on the news. Shameful that such a shocking incident is not getting the coverage and, correspondingly, the wastes of sperm who did it, the condemnation, the incident merits. It has to be a prison sentence - you can't have people wandering around race courses beating up jockeys.
Must have been a very distressing time for Coleman, he will be shaken over the breach of security, getting attacked at his place of work is terrible. Hopefully the 4 accused will be dealt with sufficiently, a good beating themselves would do no harm, idiots.
Shocking behaviour that. Two broken teeth from it. Raises the question about security for the jockeys, always thought there was the possibility of some pissed up punter trying something as the jockeys went from the weighing room to the parade ring.
Apparently, the idiots who did this had earlier been refused service at the bars due to the state they were in. Begs the question why they were still allowed to be on course if they were bad enough to warrant that. If you're deemed to be drunk at a football ground you are ejected and, indeed, if a pub refuses you service you are, usually, asked to leave the pub altogether and not just move away from the bar. My guess is that these won't have been genuine racing fans but just idiots out for a day on the p1ss!
They really need a short spell in the big house as Barney calls it as a message needs sending. We are fortunate that in racing the jocks are among the crowd, it adds to the occasion as you can often see punters on the odd day at the races chuffed to see Frankie Dettori right next to them and signing an autograph or two, it would only take two or three incidents and that would stop immediately. The worst thing was the Colman lad did nothing to deserve such a thing - on some of Jamie's rides the assailant would at least be able to claim provocation.
I think the Steward's have to hold an enquiry as the racecourse is considered licensed property by the BHA and therefore they have to ensure that all regulations have been met from a licensing standpoint. I agree that the offenders should have been removed from the racecourse as soon as they were deemed to drunk to be served any more alcohol. Good on the trainers that restrained the two offenders, and their charming partners, until the police arrived.
Thinking about this further, they should be made to really suffer. An evening spent having dinner with Grahame Cunningham, Nicky the Needle and Frankie Dettori will ensure they never, ever do anything like, that again.
I'd make them do some sort of community service linked to racing - a week of mucking out stables for example.
If you were going down that route, I'd be inclined to use them as schooling fences at Nicky's. Imagine Josses Hill or West Wizard running towards you
A couple of weeks ago people were paying £145 to have dinner with Mr Henderson! http://course-specialist.co.uk/blog...-henderson-for-the-bob-champion-cancer-trust/
