Watering for the sake of one horses chances is a joke, and even if she was to win, the win would be tainted. They should only ever water when the ground is dangerously fast, not if its good to firm. So what if Treve's connections won't run on good to firm, if she's that great then she should be able to overcome the ground being against her. A racecourse should never be set up to suit any particular horse, as the race loses all credibility if it is
They habitually water at all the big French tracks, so they will not be watering for just one horse but all the French horses. At Longchamp, if one ventures down to the stands’ side edge of the course it is a thick hedge (about a metre wide) and at intervals there are gaps where there are water cannons (not sure what they are known as officially) that are used to water the track. This habit of overwatering has been taken up over in the UK in recent years and we have paid the penalty in the last three years with wet summers resulting in false ground that ruins the racing. Over here they are only supposed to water to promote the growing of the turf and if the ground has become too fast but lip service is paid to that.
I see a yearling, full sister to Treve, went unsold at 1,200,000 Euros in August this year. Anyone here know any more? Interesting that Treve, herself, was led out unsold at 22,000 Euros as a yearling. To think we could have clubbed together and bought her
Looking on Oddschecker, you can still get Even money Treve in a few places if you want it. After the hat-trick seeking mare, they bet 9/2 New Bay, 5/1 Golden Horn, 14/1 Jack Hobbs (probable non runner), 16/1 Free Eagle, 18/1 Found, 20/1 Flintshire, 33/1 Dolniya, Erupt and Tapestry.
I'm not convinced that Golden Horn will be able to beat New Bay. I think New Bay is the danger to Treve
Anyone considering an AP bet on Treve should check out Totesport/Betfred who are offering 6/4. I would assume this will be a short lived 'offer'.
She was not unsold as a yearling. She was bought back in by Haras Du Quesnay, the Head family stud; however, we could have clubbed together at the auction. After winning the Prix de Diane, she was bought by Sheikh al Thani for an undisclosed sum. Sounds like one of Fred’s “Pushes” at lunchtime that will have been limited to small stakes to pull in new customers as she is now 4/5.
Annoyingly the next “World’s Best Racehorse Rankings” are not released until 8th October, so the ratings achieved by Treve and New Bay on Arc Trials Day are not available. Looking at the known rankings to 6th September, Golden Horn is rated 130, Treve is rated 124, Flintshire, Free Eagle and Jack Hobbs are rated 123, Dolniya is rated 121 and Eagle Top is rated 120 whilst New Bay has not managed a rating that would qualify him for the top twenty. Treve ran 126 winning last year’s Arc. We know that Shahah will be added as a pacemaker, which could be to New Bay’s advantage as well as good for Treve; and it may allow Golden Horn to settle better. I do think the winner must be one of the big three.
As GOLDEN HORN basically committed GBH to beat FREE EAGLE at Leopardstown I wouldn't be one bit surprised should that form be reversed especially on quicker ground.
I can't help thinking that Golden Horn has had a long, hard season (6 races) whereas Treve has been aimed at this and has only had 3 runs. New Bay has had 5 runs but did have the traditional "summer break" (June, July and half of August). I think this is one race too far for Golden Horn, couldn't have him at all.
I think Golden Horn is abit of a plodder in truth, so the fact he has still managed to win 2 G1s over 10 furlongs is testament to him. I think his most impressive win was in the Derby, and that was over 12 furlongs so I think we'll see a better Golden Horn in the Arc, aslong as he gets some decent ground
Was that jink last time out a sign of the end for Golden Horm or was it just an accident? I'd rather be elsewhere on the race. Can't look past Treve tbh
Treve for me too Nass - can't see the going being anything other than decent racing ground. If it were soft she would be 1-2 by now, as it is she should be OK - it won't be Brighton good-firm mid July type going.
Golden Horn isnt an Arc horse, takes too long to get going so would need a good draw and perfect trip to have any chance at all. Jack Hobbs on the other hand was more suited to the race, he has the tactical speed and gear change but Gosden has made a **** of it.
The Derby was the best race in Europe, there hasnt been a stronger piece of form all season, simple as that. Free Eagle was well beaten before he got bullied by Golden Horn, the Irish just looking for excuses.
What happened to the 'masterstroke' prepping him on the all weather for it too If the Derby's the 'best form in Europe' you'd have to believe the winner of it should be hacking up in this race but funnily enough it sounds like someone's getting their excuses in early...<asperthescript>
Free Eagle is an intended runner as long as the dry forecast continues according to Dermot Weld on RP website.
