You said anything on here that worked well... Prediction league works well from what it's meant to do, ie it's a well run thread....
I never claimed it had any relation to how we actually perform <whistle>

I thought football was a squad game and we'd spent the last couple of seasons building a squad in the hopes of better competing in a number of competitions?
We can only play 11 at any one time, so why did we bother with the others if not to play them?

Rodgers really should go now- it doesn't matter what he does he'll get slagged off for it.

No problems with using the squad, as you say that's the reason for having it. But to come out and say we're using this competition for the fringe players does 2 things, it could demotivated those that are playing by him openly admitting they are fringe players and not his first choice team, and 2 it devalues then2nd most important competition we are in.

other then Sturridge and possibly s few others surely the first team don't need a break. Moreno sakho have hardly played this year, same for a few others. Play a couple of the fringe players mixed with the first team.

    This is the only actual quote I can find from him;
In that context it doesn't seem particularly insulting to those players, imo.

I don't really agree with this approach, but he certainly isn't alone in adopting it for games like this. Rafa did it a lot in competitions he didn't rate, and I disliked it then. It's more to do with it being common practice for bigger clubs these days rather than a Rodgers idiosyncrasy.
I'm assuming Rodgers thinks that those players are good enough to do a job against an unfancied team- let's hope he's right, eh?

My point was that there are plenty of real, serious issues for us to consider, but when every single thing he does is condemned outright with hardly any consideration then that just comes across as petty to me.
People are so against him now that they will jump at any and every opportunity to have a go. Seems to me there's no balance in the criticism any more.

As for players needing a break, I agree with you- I've been saying for years that I think it's a bit farcical the way they're treated. I believe the best way to keep players match fit is for them to play matches, unless they are obviously showing signs of fatigue.
But then, I'm way behind the times, as we know.

You and I seem to have a similar view, the only difference is that now, although I'm not baying for his blood, I don't see any improvement in Rodgers managing skills and approaches to games etc. and wonder if he has actually got it in him to manage at this level just yet. Someone said the other day on the Rodgers vs Martinez thread that there's no difference between them except that RM is at his level whereas Rodgers is not. That pretty much sums it up for me.

I agree. I've already said that it's probably best for all for him to move on sooner rather than later, especially as it's been talked about so openly.
However, I'm just trying to maintain a measured approach- give credit where it's due and be critical of the things I don't like, rather than just join in with outright condemnation of everything.
At the beginning of the season I was prepared to give him the full term to see what happened, but I wasn't expecting quite such a dismal start and that has changed my mind. We're still in touch in terms of points, largely due to the poor standard throughout the league so far, but the performances have been way below what I think is acceptable.

He's gonna look a right **** if he plays your stiffs and you don't get a result.

However, it clearly shows that he's had his No.1 priority clearly spelt out to him - 4th or bust..........

My patience has worn thin with the forum naysayers so I just skip past their comments now. There's only so much negativity you can take before it starts eating it's way into your own thoughts and consequently your comments. In all seriousness I firmly believe the poorer the materiel you read, the worse you feel. Our brains needs feeding with good stuff just like our bodies.

Sakho and Sturridge are injury prone so definitely rest them. And Can has played a lot of football as well.

I'm worried about Sturridge so I'd definitely be thinking of managing him. I'm not sure about Sakho- he is a bit injury prone, but he's been out of the team more than in and I think he might benefit from more game time, tbh.
Can really isn't all that great in the position we're playing him.
The whole defence suffers from a lack of understanding so I think I'd just pick what I thought was the best and keep playing them together, unless they're injured or obviously knackered. Changing them around all the time just isn't working.
