He may split the Labour party; it was always a coalition anyway, between Marxists and social Democrats. But he's hardly a dupe. As he pointed out himself yesterday, he has a huge mandate to lead the party. People often make the comparison with the similarly decent and idealistic Michael foot, who led labour to electoral oblivion; but the landscape has shifted massively since then. Foot was up against the divisive but popular Margaret Thatcher, not the insipid and barely visible David Cameron. Lastly, don't underestimate an entire generation of young people locked out of the housing market and frequently condemned to insecure low paid work, who are massively energised by Corbyn. Us old gits had our chance to influence the world. Now it's someone else's turn, and a lot of them are looking for a principled alternative to a system that is failing the many in the interests of the few.
The Time's character assassination of Corbyn continues unabated and has been going on for several weeks now. What worries me is what price Murdoch will extract from Cameron for this. The emasculation of the BBC at least me thinks.
Interesting perspective on Syria this - and one I've been thinking for a while (so it's nice to see it in print). Basically the premise being, no matter what you might think of him, in this instance, maybe Putin is right - http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/sep/29/west-vladmir-putin-syria-us-assad
Always interesting to read peoples opinions on KK away from football. We may all love Saints but on politics we have massively different views left/right. Also people thought Interstellar was a good film! Watched it with the husband and we both thought it was well let's just say not good. (He's a big sci-fi fan by the way)
Agree with all, especially Michael Foot, a thoroughly decent, principled man and superb orator who was characterised as a "loony" because of his appearance by the Daily Mail and Tories.
Recorded that last night was thinking about giving it go tonight? Definitely worth a watch then? Did you see the one on BBC the night before about the KKK? and white/black power rallies.
Yeah I saw it, how can people be so ignorant and form such outrageous opinions?. Quite scary when you understand that they are armed as well. Auschwitz was like a holiday camp with swimming pools and cinemas and the Jews were only there to produce stuff for the Nazi war effort and no Jews were murdered there. Black people are a result of white people mating with apes or gorillas. All the White people in the program come across as utterly dumb that could barely express themselves, while the Black people were articulate and tuned in.
Yes, good watch. No, thought I'd seen it before but as you mention black power rallies, I couldn't have as the program I saw recently was solely on rise of kkk
Looking forward to this! As Dave says, the books are great, as anything by Bernard Cornwell almost always is. If the series is anywhere near as good, we're in for a treat.
Yeah agree with pretty much all of that, there was some shocking stuff being said, suppose that's what you get in the South of the US though. The bit I've bolded I think was done on purpose by the production but even so I was actually quite shocked at some of the stuff being said as if it was 'normal'. "I'm not racist, I just want all the blacks to move back into the city and we can have natural segregation" Okay I'll give that a watch tonight N was quite interesting/shocking stuff the kkk one.
The ridiculous nature of their statements almost make you laugh out loud. Then you think about it and shudder. You just know if contradicted the guy talking about the ape mating bollocks would cheerfully shoot you and feel justified in doing so.
I see Russia has started to bomb non ISIS held areas in Syria. Already 50 civilians confirmed dead today. They have also ordered US and allies to leave Syrian airspace. Russia now have 2000+ troops and 20 planes in a Assad held airport. More Russian hardware and troops to arrive soon. Syria is becoming even more of a mess.
Anyone watch body donors last night? It's about people who are terminally ill but want to leave their bodies to research.
They have ordered the US to leave? That will make the hawks in the US administration want to take on the Russian forces in the air and on the ground as I cannot see the US agree to Russia's request. Meanwhile both governments are saying sod the people that matter!! I do not know any Russians who want to be involved in Syrian affairs.
Spammer above mods. @ChilcoSaint @TheSecondStain Apparently Saints fans among best looking in the PL - second only to Bournemouth!! http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/13793268.Saints_fans_among_the_best_looking_supporters/
