Wales overcame a 10-point deficit and endless injuries to pull off a sensational win against England in an astonishing World Cup contest. Gareth Davies's late try from Lloyd Williams' brilliant cross-field kick and 23 points from Dan Biggar's unblemished boot sealed victory.

This is a devastating loss for England, for whom Owen Farrell kicked 20 points. Jonny May scored a first-half try for the hosts, who turned down a tricky late shot at goal and paid the price.

When England led 22-12 with half an hour to play they looked to be in control, but the concession of a series of penalties, many at the breakdown, kept Wales in the game, and in a blistering finale it was the men in red who found the resolve to come through.

Given the occasion, their injuries - they saw Scott Williams, Liam Williams and Hallam Amos all forced off with nasty-looking injuries - and the importance of the occasion, this may be Wales' greatest ever win on foreign soil. England will now have to beat Australia next Saturday to keep their own World Cup campaign alive.

England could have snatched a draw at the death, but captain Chris Robshaw opted to kick to the corner rather than take the difficult pot at the posts, and when Wales pushed the subsequent maul into touch the chance had gone.

It was a decision that may be endlessly debated but in truth England lost the game through their own indiscipline, Stuart Lancaster's controversial team selection was arguably justified by an assured performance from Farrell, who was picked at fly-half ahead of George Ford.

But his reputation as a coach now hangs on the result of the Wallabies showdown in a week's time, the doomsday scenario of England becoming the first World Cup hosts to fail to make it out of the group stages now a real possibility. -Tom Fordyce

We are taking some hits in the injury department but I think we have the depth and improvisation on positions, this will give our camp a massive boost, while engerland will be now doubting their chances against the Aussies...........<ok>

Last night was another Rorke's Drift type success for us!

However, given our injuries, beating Fiji is not "a given".

That said, if we do succeed then England will have to beat the Aussies - who would love nothing better than to dump England out of the RWC on their own patch. Sweet revenge for the Ashes?

If England do beat the Aussies, then I think that we will end up 3rd in the group - honestly, can't see us beating the Aussies with our injury list.

Our Team Bus is being converted into a Team Ambulance as we speak ! <laugh>

It was a tad annoying!!! First time I've ever had grief at a football match, walking back to my car, what a bunch of juvenile pricks some of their fans are.

If the Aussies beat England, which I fully expect them to do, then we are through with a win against Fiji, we will need to bring in replacements for the further injury list. I have full confidence in Gatland and our boys to get out of this group of death. We are sitting top of the group.........<laugh>

I wish to thank our boys for dishing out a well deserved lesson yesterday to the English, who's arrogance is never far from the surface, they thought they had it all sown up with the home advantage and our injuries, it was so sweet to see the wheels come of the chariot second half, Biggar was immense and a true leader.......<ok>

His kicking was top draw, halfpenny would have been proud of that display. The one from the half way line, just unbelievable.

It was similar in length to the kick that Halfpenny had to win the semi-final against France 4 years ago.

Former All Blacks star Ali Williams has hit out at England, the World Cup winning second row, who was part of the All Blacks successful side in 2011, blasted England's rugby team as a relic of the British Empire. And Williams also berated the Twickenham crowd, describing the atmosphere as 'vindictive' and said it would be a 'dark day' if the hosts won the tournament, I bet he was ecstatic when Wales won last night then................<laugh>

    He goes on to say:

'The English always carry this consciousness of their grand past and would like to be reminded of their great empire,' Williams told French paper L'Equipe. 'It's this that explains why all the big rugby nations want with all their heart to beat them: Australia, France, New Zealand, South Africa.

'The Welsh hate them and I'm not going to mention the Irish. They create a consensus against them. The worst defeats are those against the English. Perhaps because they lack nobility in their victories.' Williams was equally scathing about the English fans, describing Twickenham as the worst stadium in the world to play at.

I like this guy talks so much sense..........:1980_boogie_down:

Using words like 'hate' is both way off the mark and out of order when talking about sport imo. Too much of that in the world as it is.

I agree with the observation of arrogance amongst English rugby - both the players and its fans - but Wales was a part of the 'evil' British Empire that made his country what it is today so that's bollocks - coming from a guy who's country is famous for sheep, rugby, Lord of The Rings and **** all else it's a bit rich.

    Gerry Thornley, Irish Times:

"Somehow, it actually lived up to the hype and the seismic sense of occasion. Maybe even bettered it. There’s bravery, and there’s this kind of Welsh bravery. Already diminished by injuries to three first-choice backs, they lost three more here and yet somehow completed a comeback from 22-12, and 25-18 with 10 minutes remaining, to conjure the try of the tournament and one of this proud rugby nation’s greatest one-off wins.

"Michael Cheika and his Wallabies will have enjoyed this as much as anyone, and next Saturday back here, England face them and the point of no return."

I suppose it's how you say 'hate' in it's context, 'I hate porridge', though it doesn't carry the extreme, so it would be down to how he said it, or was he on a wind-up? Probable..................<laugh>
