Rooney or Mata?

Who should be taking the majority of our free kicks?

At the moment Rooney seems to be hogging most of the free kicks, and I don't believe he should be as Mata IMO is a much better dead ball specialist.

Mata only seems to get a go if it really favours a left footer.

Again today Rooney blasted loads of free kicks into the stands, and I'm getting sick and tired of his big ego having to take most of the set pieces when Mata is far more accurate.

What's everyone else's thoughts on this?

Yeh I noticed this also. Agree he is more consistent at it too. What about others when fit. Ashley Young given a go? Di Maria? RvP is excellent at free kicks but possibly moreso on his left foot.

Both are very hit and miss. RvP would be my choice.

I think because Rooney is captain he pulls rank over the others, but LVG needs to be having a word with Rooney and telling him to let others have a go. Rooney is ok from free kicks, but there are others better than him in the side. I'd agree Mata, Di Maria and RVP are better. IMO though the best of the 3 is Mata, I think he'll get us the most goals over a season if given the dutie every game:biggrin:

Did you see how many awful corners Mata took. Mata is average at set pieces.

His corners are one thing (influenced by what they're doing in training) but free-kicks are another. His free-kicks have been consistently good.

Rooney is **** at free kicks. Always has been. How many of the hundreds he's taken for United have actually hit the target and how many have resulted in a goal? Very few. The vast majority are ballooned way up into the stands.

On another note, watching the Spurs v Chav game yesterday and a player I'd love to see at United is Erikssen but he'd cost stupid money now.

Not worth starting a new thread but...

Since Mata signed for Manchester United, no Premier League midfielder has scored more goals from open play. Mata 17 goals, Toure & Hazard 14.
