All those negatives about Jack Cork leaving.. always a continuity player who played well when the team played well. JWP who has come in for, in my view undue criticism, continues to play the continuity role more effectively as the weeks go by. Was there a place for both in the squad or was the club right to back JWP and let Jack Cork go? My view is that Jack Cork has found his level, JWP is still only 20 and will get better... and better.

I hope you realise Swansea only had four less points than us last year. Both teams are currently on 9 points. Don't get ahead of yourself.

And Cork fans might point out that Swansea were a better side with him on the pitch.

So so sorry for expressing an opinion that might be,,, 'getting ahead of myself'.. you know being positive and suggesting that like for like the club might have made a good strategic decision. It's only my opinion but JWP has great potential and Jack Cork has reached his.

Just watched Match Choice on Sky....only do that for a decent win. Gives about an hour of the match. There were flashes of the old Southampton....we didn't dominate like we sometimes did in the last two seasons, but certainly had a lot of chances. Impressed with Bertrand, VVD and Pelle, but everyone did a real shift. Was never a penalty as Fonte got there as soon as he could:rolleyes:

    Interesting cut from the BBC.

And when I say interesting, I mean absolutely terrible.

Cork wasn't great today but neither was anyone else. You deserved the win but he's been excellent this season so don't be so blinkered. As for "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" at least we could celebrate the irony of that ****.

And we had 2 less than Liverpool and 4 less than Spuds, in 6th and 5th positions respectively. They are the rivals we need to be aiming at getting past. If we do that, we should be taking care of Swansea as a consequence. So let's not look too hard at failure or we might just achieve it.

Football is a squad game. You're claiming Cork wasn't good enough for us, but good enough for Swansea. The teams are so close together in the table it's a laughable statement. Cork should be in our squad, as well as who we have now. It was a mistake selling him. End of.

I'm not sure, we only lost players to those two because they were offering bigger contracts to the players. If we came 5th last season (above Liverpool and Spurs) then I'm sure Alderweireld would still have gone to Spurs and Clyne would still have gone to Liverpool.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with that if you're referring to relative salaries that clubs pay players, i.e. money talking. But there are so many variables that paying a set of players relatively more or less than a rival club is only one factor and not necessarily the most important one. In fact, I believe that Saints continue to be amongst the lower paying clubs in the Premier League, which might make it seem odd that they do so well. However, it is a simple fact that positionally, in the league, we will be looking at Spurs and Liverpool as our main rivals and only if we fail to beat them will we become overtly concerned about Swansea. Also, when you look at the quality of players, position for position, I'm not sure that any Swansea player gets in over a Saints one [though I'm also sure there could be arguments for one or two]. Do the same for Liverpool and Spurs squads and our players will often be interchangeable, quality wise. All in my, hopefully unbiased, opinion, of course.
