Adam Johnson bore the brunt of Dick Advocaat’s criticism after Sunderland’s 3-0 defeat at Manchester United on Saturday.Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat slammed the performance of Adam Johnson and criticised his team for making it too easy for Manchester United in their 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford. Advocaat’s men are still waiting for their first Premier League win of the season following another disappointing display, which leaves the Wearsiders with just two points after seven games. Memphis Depay opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time with his maiden league goal for United, before Wayne Rooney’s first league strike for 1,000 minutes and Juan Mata capped off a comfortable win for the hosts late on. While United and Advocaat’s fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal are now top of the table, the Sunderland boss was left to ponder what went wrong again, and he was quick to point the finger at winger Johnson, who was withdrawn at half-time. Advocaat said: “Johnson, why I took him out? Because I think every ball he touched was wrong.” Asked for his overall assessment of Sunderland’s display, he added: “We cannot keep saying every game take the good things out of the game. “We were well organised against a good a side as United but we gave the game away in two minutes. Normally we give goals away in the beginning, now at the end and at the beginning of the second half. “Against a team like United, 2-0 down, it is quite difficult to come back. “The first half the way the team was organised was okay. We tried to hurt them a little bit on the break sometimes, but by the first goal, if you see what kind of mistake we make again, then you ask for problems. “Before that United did not have a lot of chances in my opinion. “The first goal that was not a chance, it was a long ball, Patrick van Aanholt is watching his own man instead of closing down. “The second goal was the same, too easy, the third goal the same. I can accept sometimes to lose but we made it very easy for them second half.”
Anybody know where Watmore was today? I'm sick of giving this numpty time to prove he's a decent signing at over 10m! Just found another article, and suprise suprise PVA's been singled out aswell. Dick must be the only person in Sunderland that thought he was worthy of keeping his place over Yedlin http://www.skysports.com/football/n...at-singles-out-trio-after-old-trafford-defeat
I read the title differently . . . . thinking about 'slamming' Ulrika (and I am thinking about it now)
Right to slam AJ, but should this not be done in private, I believe after watching this lad underachieve for two years, he was once great at going past players but has lost the ability or is now too f******g lazy to even try, we need to get shot first oppo imo. The likes of AJ and SF are taking us in one direction, and have been for three seasons.
So why did nobody jump on Dickemoticon-0136-giggl) When Catts was playing badly and dick publicly criticized his performances and said he had to fight for his place and that his contract renewal was a club decision not his. I don't remember a peep our of anybody. Or where he said Rodwell isn't being aggressive enough? Or when he publicly stated Coatez needs to drop the 'shy guy' act? He's called out players in the press his whole career but we jump on it now as it fits the agenda of panic and crisis. Just let him get on with it man. He's always used the Media to send a message to players. Not a month ago when he did it with Short he was hailed as a person who know how to use the press to send a message. Short memories.
If we play a flat back 4 against West Ham then PVA needs dropping. Yedlin right back with Jones shifting to left back. Johnson was obviously no where near match fit unfortunately.
I maybe wrong here but you memtioned catts comtract. Was not brown om his way outt then offered a mew one (**** knows why) Omce the dutchmam returmed?
It was literally days between Dick coming back and Brown signing the contract. Who's to say who's decision it was. Speculation, Congerton will have surely known his budget by then. I'd guess the budget wouldn't stretch to three new CBs and that's why Brown was offered one. He's meant to be on a pittance. Cheep option for a **** budget?
It may be Dicks style using the press to talk negatively about his players but I personally dont think it is best for the club or the dressing room.
That's fair do's. I can appreciate that, but that's not what's confusing me. What's confusing me is that's he's been doing it since he joined us and nobody has really questioned it. Why is it an issue now? He's been in charge of us for 16 league games. Don't understand how it's gone from backing his style to objecting it in such a short space of time. Just looks like a scapegoat gripe while we bury our heads about the real problems. Like the state of our club. Short's short arms and deep pockets effecting our budget to a point our only options were mediocre players, unfit better players, and retaining players we should let go. This is the real problem. We should be putting pressure on Short to cough up in January because the way it's going we're going to need pull of one hell of a second half of the season. Not getting on Dick's back for doing something we fine with a few games ago.
Its an issue now because it is relevent to our last game, and what seems to be a recuring problem of rigid team selsction and tactics, this might not be the case and it may be that we do not have a squad with anywhere near the quality to survive another year in this league, but we live in hope.
Was it not relevant last time he did it following a bad result? Just saying. I think it is strong enough personally, you'll have to speak for yourself on that one. Dick's trying to get his strongest team fit as quick as possible by making them play. As always the case with fitness training things get worse before they get better. You also have to consider how much extra fitness training has an effect on time for tactical training. Dick is trying to juggle both thanks to Short being a tight ****. Just cause we're bad now doesn't mean we'll be bad two month down the line.
Can anyone possibly believe that Johnson is, with all the crap that is surrounding his life atm, fully focused on playing premiership football? Yes, innocent until proven guilty, but he must be having plenty of sleepless nights and I would think be just a touch stressed, so why play him in the first place & what affect is it having on the rest of the team? Publicly criticising him just compounds his woes and shows the world the **** we are in, which has us all banging our heads in frustration. Stick him in the reserves and hope it all gets sorted; meanwhile play to our strengths.........I ask again, why was Watmore not playing. I am not saying he would be our saviour, but he is focused and raring to impress. So Please, someone enlighten me
