Needed this one with Chelsea away on the horizon. Good performance; van Dijk in particular was excellent.

 

First game back going to St Marys and a good win.

Game against Chelski depends as much on quality of referee. Need someone not intimidated by Jose and crowd.

 

There isn't one team in this division, bar Sunderland, where we can guarantee an Away result. And our recent record against Sunderland isn't fantastic, although I'd expect that to improve this season.

 

Jose doesn't intimidate anyone, except the opposing CF. He's just a wonderful CB.

But they usually get a lucky break and thus a fortunate 1-0 or 2-0 win without doing anything special Their style of play, plus elements of their support (hangers-on) that are racist, and have a love of Glasgow Rangers, makes Chelsea far more loathsome than either Spurs or Liverpool.

 

No, no, no. Spurs and Liverpool are on a different planet of dislike. Chelsea are just meh. I actually bother to dislike Spuds and Pool and I usually can't be bothered to dislike any team.

 

I can only assume Fonte used a machine gun...no other explanation for suggesting he fouled someone.

 

All the more reason that it was important for us to win today, then.

 

He was probably shepherding the player to safety from a fast approaching wayward Wanyama. I know he was off the field by then, but that doesn't mean he was no a danger to opposing players.
