They had Ruddles ale on offer at Wetherspoons in Consett on Saturday at £1.20... Amazing! Are there any cheaper ones out there?

Is there a competition for how many threads you can start Chip Shop?

On topic there is nothing under £2 around me but I am living in a village. Average is probably about £3.

Surely with tax they must be selling a pint at a loss at £1.25?

Jessies Bar beside my old house in Malta, €1 a pint of Cisk (actually high quality beer) and €0.40 a shot of Famous Grouse <ok>

Zatec is the name of the town where I was working Mick. I think they call it Zatecy when it is exported. They brew the stuff in the town and export hops all over the world. Beer can only be called pilsner if the hops are from this region. Tells ya you can drink a shedfull and not have a bad head the next day. Lovely stuff too.

You need to drink it locally (in Czech Republic) Saint. I have been told they put stuff in it for export to make it last longer.

I do need to go the Czech. It's on the list of places to go for short trips.

Just had a pub reopened round our way that's doing all pints for £2. They're not tied to any brewery so can buy from whoever they want. Place is packed 24/7 now and I can get ****faced for £20.

    Splendid.

Brigham and Cowans klerb in Shields will be less then 1.20 for a John Smiths or an Exibition like. It was a quid for years but i think they hoyed it upto 1.10, prompting disorder amongst the regulars. Only problem is it's generally full of pensioners.

I'd sooner pay 2.50 for a real ale amongst the beardeys in a proper pub.

If you go to Prague you will pay the same as any other European capital mate. Get out into the sticks and there are some amazing places and beer museums that virtually give the stuff away. If you like good looking women though you will not be disappointed.

Sounds like a good place to go. But the other half will be coming with me so the looking will have to be on the sly.

You'd think so. There's a chain up north called "Last Orders", rough pubs that sell cheap drink. I've heard they buy beer very close to its sell-by date - and hence cheaper - in the knowledge that it'll sell out in time because it's so inexpensive. That's the thinking anyway, and I've never seen one go out of business.

Wetherspoons are notoriously cheap as well of course, and originally that's because they never played music or had TVs on, so they didn't need expensive entertainment licenses. Not sure if that's still how they cut costs though, because I'm sure I've been in one where there has been music more recently.

Wetherspoons has 2 types of pubs now. The ones with entertainment licences drink's are a tiny bit more expensive and they are called Lloyd's Bars I think.
