If we were to sell Jose Enrique, for argument's sake we'll say for £12m, then how would/should that affect our transfer kitty?

From what I've heard, part of the £35m has been kept aside in order to bankroll the improved contract that we're currently offering Jose. However if he leaves, that money should once again be available to purchase players.

As a guesstimate, I'd say that Enrique currently earns around £35k a week (£1.8m per year) and that the current offer on the table is worth £60k a week (£3.1m per year). Over a 5 year period, that would be £15.5m saved from the sale of Jose, £6.5m of which was offered as an improvement to his current contract.

If we add together the extra £6.5m currently on the table with the £12m from his sale, overall we should expect to have at least a further £18.5m to spend this summer (and that's without considering the remaining £28.5m from the sale of Andy Carroll and the £35k per week that Jose is currently on).

These are obviously ball park figures, but are definitely something we should consider as I can see that money disappearing into the ****'s pocket!

In an ideal world, if we were to sell Jose then we would have around £45m to spend (as Cabaye cost us Nolan + around £1m).

However, I can see the majority of that money disappearing and hardly anyone making Mike account for it.

  2. Don't even bother starting this arguement mate. I totally agree with you, but there are some people that spout crap saying it's Ashley's money and he can do what ever the **** he wants with it, and he doesn't owe us anything and is a smart business man, and some people just seem to want to suck his cock all of a sudden.

I know, that's the problem with some of us, some fans are so lovestruck by the club that they're willing to sit by and be shat on by our twat of an owner. I may start praying for a new owner soon...

We've spent more than 1m. It hurts to hear it but agent and signing on fees for free agents are a lot higher than you think. We dont know anything of the real numbers and to take assumed transfer fees as the only expenditure is naive IMO.

The club gets revenue from T.v money, ticket sales, Merchandise sales, money for staying in the league. I don't think there is any excuse for not spending a large chunk of the £35 million and if we don't i will be extremely pissed off with Ashley.

How are you going to make Mike account for it? He's, whether we like it or not, perfectly entitled to do what he likes with the money, and not tell the fans a damn thing about where it's gone.

If fans continue to buy tickets and merch then their opinions are completely unimportant.

This, although and this is a big although I dont want the club just to spend for spending sake, and shouldnt pay over the odds for players especially since there is still plenty of time left in the window. Come the start of the season and we are in the same position now then my rage levels may start to build.

As for the orginal article selling Enrique maybe benefical financially, and left back is not a key position in my eyes, so selling a player wanting to leave to save alot of money may make sense, the only downside is I can see big MA putting all the money in a big $ bag and keeping it under his bed

And also, we don't have to spend all this money in this window. What happens if we pick up two or three key injuries and have to strengthen in January but have no money? Would be foolish to spend all our money at once.

Jose will be on at least £50k a week.

In terms of the budget we can see that Pardew is allowed another striker, the funds are there for an "Erdinc" type player which is why we were in for him (say £10m). If Pardew wants any more players in he needs to generate funds from sales. I think Ashley is looking at the squad size, we have plenty midfielders, decent cover in defence (other than at LB) but lacking up front so money is there for a striker. If Pardew wants another midfielder or defender i think its a case of one out one in, using only the funds generated from sales though.

If we get Sturridge on loan for the season then i think the funds for a striker will be put aside for next season.

If Enrique goes, say around £10m, i think Pardew will be allowed £5-7m to get a replacement (M'Bengue??). If you look at the figures we were quoting for Neil Taylor, around £1m.... thats what Pardew has aside from funds for a striker.... i.e. FA

If we spend more money now we can afford to rotate the squad and avoid a certain percentage of the injuries you're talking about. I'm pleased that the training ground is a priority and hope that this will mean we have a more reliable first team in the long run.

    Lets analyse this:

    • t's Ashley's money: Technically no even though he's the outright owner of the club but he's bound by laws that stop him simply taking the money out of the business.
    • ...he can do what ever the **** he wants with it: Once again; this is technically incorrect because as a director he has to ensure that the business is run and maintained in a suitable manner which restricts him being able to do what ever he wants with it.
    • ...he doesn't owe us anything: Technically if he supplies a ticket, a seat, a team and matches then he fulfils his remit in accordance to trading standards based on what you paid your money for.
    • ...a smart business man: Proven to be a successful businessman. This in no way infers he's smart as he employs a wealth of staff to ensure that the businesses he owns make profits.
    • ...and some people just seem to want to suck his cock: A typical Tashism

Jose is on more than £35k a week, I'm sure he is on £50k plus at the moment.

Also, I totally agree with everything you're saying. Ashley keeps f*cking us but unfortunately, we can't do anything about it!

I refer to OT's response and would also point out as I have before that there are items such as Vat, 20%, that have to be paid to the government, all sales will attract Vat, so all revenue streams such as tickets are reduced, the on costs of employment with Employers NI paid by any employer mean that a player on £60k a week costs a further £430000 per year to employ, just for this on cost that is 17200 seats at £30 a ticket which once you take the vat off is £25, its called sums and is the reason why contrary to the general opinion MA actually puts money into the club each financial years to date to balance the books. I don't have any particular liking for MA but the constant whining about levels of finance in the transfer market without any other consideration of the financial constraints of running a premier league football club are getting boring and in many cases are just childish.

Maybe just maybe the club are trying to give the impression that most of the £35m is gone, so that when they are bidding for players they arent held to ransom by the selling club.

look at Man City when ever they bid for a player they end up having to pay 15% and more because clubs know they have the bottomless pit of money

That's true, or at least it would be if we were buying English players or from fellow English clubs... the fact is that we're not and therefore it doesn't really affect our dealings in foreign markets.

The club is £100m in debt to Ashley, think i may understand one of the reasons he doesn't want to spunk any money the club gets.
