He is a keeper on trial, just been released by Man United, 19 years old and has represented NI U-19's, could play against Ferriby or Winterton?? Anyone even heard of him?
Haha, yeah it does, just I'm a bit worried him(if signed) along with Oxley would be too inexperienced if Gulacsi got injured.
I reckon that we won't get Gulacsi if Devlin signs (Which seems like a back-up plan) Basso will probably sign
This does put doubt over the Gulacsi deal - if this Devlin signs, along with Gulacsi, we'll have 3 vastly inexperienced keepers at the club. Surely Basso wouldn't join to give us 4 goalkeepers?
I would have thought this makes the Gulacsi signing more likely and the Basso one less, because Gulacsi will want to be first choice and Devlin will be happy to be the reserve keeper. Gulacsi and Liverpooll might be concerned about Gulacsi being first choice if we have Basso on the books, as he won't be happy to be reserve keeper.
That makes sense, but if Gulacsi and Devlin sign, we're really taking our chances with 3 very inexperienced goalkeepers on our books. I know Gulacsi has played a fair few league games for Hereford and Tranmere, but still, he's never played at this level - if he puts in a couple of shockers, we'll only have 2 kids (Oxley and Devlin) to throw in. Think of the pressure!
I know what you mean but at the end of the day you have to back NP's judgement. Some players mature earlier than others and from the few bits I googled on Devlin he sounds pretty good.
If Nigel Pearson, his scouts feel they are good enough to be here then they are good enough. Youngsters need to be given a chance, if us as a club are going to succeed we will need to take gambles, we can't afford major signings and big prices, so we are trying to sign youngsters who in 3/4 years we hope will come good we can either make a lot on or they can take us up! Nigel Pearson has obviously played Football Manager, its a fairly standard strategy!
As Alan Hansen once famously said, "you'll never win anything with kids" Gulacsi and Devlin are very talented keepers - my worry is that, should they both join us (which might not be the case yet by the way), we'll have absolutely no experience in the goalkeeping department. I think NP is smart enough to bring a keeper in with some pedigree and experience in this league. But if he doesn't, fair play to him for taking a risk - we'll have to see what happens
It doesn't necessarily mean anything. Surely at 20, Mark Oxley could do with a loan move so that he is at the very least a genuine #2 somewhere? That would still mean Gulasci and Basso coming in and leave Devlin as reserve 'keeper. Of course, he could be deemed not good enough if he's only just coming in.
I was very young when that happened, but i think we all know that quote. I don't any of us honestly think Nigel Pearson wouldn't bring in a more experienced keeper alongside them, but if Nigel doesn't i am sure there is some reasoning behind it.
I'm not sure an ambitious young keeper at Man United, who is a Northern Ireland U18 international, would come to a Championship team to be number 3
