  2. Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool must give Brendan Rodgers more time

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool must stick with Brendan Rodgers after opting against sacking the Northern Irish coach in the summer and handing him over £70 million to spend on new signings.

The former Reds defender, who now works as a pundit on Sky Sports, was understandably perturbed while discussing Liverpool’s disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Norwich City on Sunday afternoon.

An increasing number of Liverpool supporters are voicing their discontent with the under-performing Rodgers on social media, with many calling for Anfield officials to replace him with either Jurgen Klopp or Carlo Ancelotti.

But Carragher feels Rodgers needs to be handed until at least Christmas to prove he’s still the right man for the main job at Anfield after being granted permission to spend big in the summer.

"They decided to give him the benefit of the doubt at the start of the summer,” Carragher was quoted as saying by the Mirror. "If you give him that much money, then after eight or nine games why make the change?

He's tapping up Liverpool. Surely that's against the rules!

  5. The reports I read before (direct quotes from Klopp himself included) said that Klopp wanted to try the PL. It also said he didn't want to go to a money club such as Man City or Real Madrid, he wants a project that he can build from the Gecko (for Dave Gorman fans). Not being funny, but that sounds like Liverpool would be right up his street imo.

I have seen reports since suggesting otherwise but not many direct quotes attached to them.

Graham Beecroft, Liverpool-based journalist, thinks Brendan Rodgers’ days at Liverpool are numbered – and has claimed to have inside information which suggests FSG actually decided to sack him before last night’s ‘win’.

Beecroft works for talkSPORT as a Liverpool correspondent, and has a long affiliation with the club having been present at both Heysel and Hillsborough disasters.

“John W Henry would have looked at that performance and thought, ‘this is not good enough and a change has to be made’, and I understand that is going to happen,” Beecroft told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“In fact, the club board were split in what to do with Brendan Rodgers, but the power base in Boston decided before this game they were going to make the change.

But wait. I'm not a fan of how he did it at all....but if we take our bias out of the equation, can anybody honestly say that coming into this year, if you had the option of playing for City or Liverpool for the same money, you'd choose Liverpool? Honestly?

Remember, the lad was played in just about every position while the idiot tinkerman dicked about with the team....so yes, he played him but he also alienated him....Rodgers is at fault. No doubt about it.

So, sterling is a weasel for how he did it....but, especially with the benefit of hindsight, from a players perspective, he absolutely made the right choice.....and I'll be very surprised if coutinho doesn't follow suit very soon if things don't change.

If you get Klopp, you'll be the envy of the PL. I would love him at Arsenal but Arsene ain't budging any time soon. What Klopp did with Dortmund is incredible. IF he can do it with them then he can definitely do it with Liverpool.

I did say rightly or wrongly regarding leaving. I agree if players see all the talent leaving and retiring and not seeing it come in it will make you weigh your options.

I think he's a prick solely on first impressions rather than hindsight and said it back when.

As for being played all over the place? Well sorry that I dint accept as valid and is further evidence to the argument. As a young (yes talented) player you should be begging for a place anywhere on the team. Who the **** does a kid think he is second guessing his boss, the one who gave him a chance? City wouldn't even know his name without Rodgers.

So fine about him looking after his best interests but I'm not accepting it was anyone's decision or fault in how he did it

According to what I've just seen on Sky Sports News, an offer HAS NOT been made to Klopp by us, which could suggest either one of four things:

    1. We won't sack Rodgers
    2. We're not interested in Klopp
    3. With regard to the strong rumours re: Ancelotti we're holding out for him
    4. We're after some other plum with no trophy record

Klopp is hinting...could be on his way to Chelsea, maybe?!

It's the agent game..managers say nothing their agenys dip the toe all waiting just in case BR is out.

We won't directly directly contact them but "someone" will sound out the what if...and so they should unofficially if they are seriously thinking of sacking Rodgers. But respect is due to him to officially say he's our man until he's not our man.

And I'm going to get this out now before it happens . Rodgers deserves our respect regardless of whether we like or dislike him. Whether we think he's succeeded as manager.

He may ultimately fail at the task but he has conducted himself as a professional. He didn't bring the club into disrepute, he didn't bad mouth our players he merely challenged them to be better. He didn't spit on other members of staff or fellow managers.

He has always spoken and had our clubs history at the heart of his attempts. He may talk too much David Brent but he has always been enthusiastic and shown a genuine love of our club and shown an awe sometimes to a fault of our history and pedigree.

Many have recoloured events to build a case against him which I think is unnecessary. He hasn't succeeded in the only place that counts the pitch. The whispers and rumours ****e about events is overkill and frankly beneath us. He was asked to do a job, he tried his best and it looks like he's failed

But he's had a hell of a lot more class than some of his contemporaries and some of the players we have been all to quick to justify in a desperate hope to keep.

So cheers Brendan. If you're going: best of luck.

I have no personal grudge against Rodgers like I had against Woy.

Rodgers only fault is that he's not been good enough for us. If he moves to Newcastle, gets a bit better and does well for them, I'll applaud him.

He came, he tried, he has failed. Badly.

Perhaps FSG now realise that substance is required with style. That its not one big PR effort (at which BR excelled tbh).

But I agree with your sentiment. It's too easy to vent your frustrations at the only person that we really can....I am no different.....especially when you see change is needed. But this is a forum where opinions are aired.....many of those are anti Rodgers for obvious reasons... That doesn't make it right....but it's going to happen. It did with Roy, it did with Rafa in the end too....and look what he delivered for us.

I'll gladly wish him all the best. Once he's actually gone!! <ok>

  19. There are also plenty on here that realise its not just Brod at fault and although wishing to see a change of manager, not many have shown signs of dislike or hate towards Brod himself.

All over Twitter now that Talksport are saying Rodgers will be sacked tomorrow and Ancelotti is coming in. I don't know about the Talksport rumour mill but I know Twitter is full of **** most of the time.

For all the jokes, the animosity, the we've-had-enoughs and can't-take-any-mores it's ****ing sad that it's ended like this, it really is. For all's said and done he gave it his best shot but it wasn't good enough.

That said, certain players should take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror and ask questions of themselves; the scouts should go on a refresher course; FSG should ask themselves if they really want to be in this game or stick to silly girl's rounders
