And get good?? We have some talent, although we are crap defensively. But defences can be organized even if they're made up of poor players. I get the feeling that it will all come together at some point and we'll start getting some results at a time when people have written us of as ****e (which we are ATM).

I think we will Sid it's just a matter of when ? So far this season we have been denied perfectly good goals at crucial times in each game, conceded dodgy penalty kicks, was he in the box or not, wonder strike for the Bournemouth lads first goal of the season, the list goes on. Yes we need to sort out or defensive issues sooner rather than later and it's up to . DA to do so, I said on last night's match thread that we will finish 15th and I genuinely believe that, every club has a bad patch each season and we are having ours now but it has to be sorted quickly.

Cutting it fine? I'd say it was rather ambitious, we generally don't get it all together until about March!

The difference between us and Leicester is that they were generally the best team in most of their games, playing good football throughout the match. We aren't exactly doing that are we? Although there is positive signs that we still aren't a million miles away. We just need to somehow sort that bastard defence out :headbang:

On the point of organising a defence. I keep thinking back to when African teams just made up the numbers at the world cup because at the time , they knew little of football. Then the euroopean coaches started to work with them, and because they were coached on individual jobs to do, formation, discipline and game plans, they became more difficult to break down , even though ability wise they were still lacking. Surely these ''premiership'' players can be coached and directed in the basics

Aye, and what about Chile? They give away nowt at the back and have a few lower-leaguers in their lineup...

We are paying the price for a poor preseason so hopefully lesson learnt for the future. We are still trying to get players up to speed and get them to gel as a team. We do have quality though and in my opinion we will be fine. Just need to tough it out for now. The first win obviously cannot come quick enough at the moment more so for self belief and confidence of the team it self. A lot of doom sayers on here at the moment.....we are Sunderland....how many times have we been down this route? We are quite good at now of getting out these sort of positions....lol. Everything will be good at the end of the season.....just be patient....

Take away Soton, Villa, and Palace debacles and we were 5th best defence last year (if we'd kept all 3 games to zero mind !)

Yeah, know what you're saying mate - from 5th to worst, the answer to why, as much as anything could be the stating point to moving ahead.

Because Advocaat and Co didn't address our defensive problems in the transfer window.
Everyone in football knew we had a rubbish defence and that Brown and O'Shea were well past it.
We needed at least two decent defenders and we ended up with Kaboul ???
Last night aside, we are shipping far too many goals and no matter how good the strikers are, if the defence is not solid then we are wasting our time.
Coates is like a cart horse, Van Arnolts head is shot away at the moment and seems to be in a panic a very time the ball comes near him.
Yedlin showed some good touches last night but he must be wondering what he has let himself in for.

Take away Man City, and, correct me if I am wrong, the games we conceded (the most) stupid goals it was Kaboul and Coates playing together. ?

O'Shea and kaboul seem to make an OK partnership, so I've got my fingers crossed that they both remain fit. But we need another CB in the January window imo, someone who is good at marshaling the defensive line - a younger and quicker O'Shea.

I would have said bring Beadling a try, but as he is out injured for a while...

Two poor full backs who are tactically clueless and get caught out of position without any cover that they had until this season. MVila and Lens do not run back once the ball is lost.
