I said that i would, like ***in, be reviewing the situation after ten games. Well i am a bit premature but i would just like to comment on the new players and the old. Firstly the new players. Bauer has been good, Bergdich- i don't know if he is any better than Harriott. Ba- ok but a bit in and out, Caballos- Haven't seen enough of him to make a decision. Makienok- Has done alright, will make some goals but will not score many. Kashi- has been a success, Sarr- hasn't had many starts but has done okay,Mc Alany- haven't seen enough to make a decision. The old players. I think Vetokele and Watt have been awful. Pope has made a number of mistakes but he is still learning. Fox doesn't look like a Championship player. Solly, Cousins and Gudmundsson have been below par. We started the season well but we have looked very poor in the last three games. We need to arrest this slide ASAP but i think that the bookies may have got it right. If we lose against Palace and Cardiff i can see the knives being sharpened.
My thoughts on the new summer signings based on their performances from the pre season friendlies onwards - Bauer - 8/10. Decent Championship standard centre half Karshi - 6.5/10 - good start, but regressed in recent weeks & won't create a lot Sarr & Cebellos - too early to say, but Sarr was bullied worse than Roland in Grange Hill v Huddersfield, and Cebellos ain't going to like those cold muddy winter slogs, you just know it. Both look duds IMO, but time will tell. Bergdych - 5/10. What you see is what you get, a fairly lightweight non descript player with flashes of skill. Not a top 6 signing though. Ba - 4/10 - a dirty little scuttler, Amdy Faye without the wages, Keith Jones without the character. Makes Cousins look a worse player. Unnecessary signing. Makienok - 3/10 - the albino Carl Leaburn. Won't score 5 goals this season. So many of our moves break down at his clumsy feet. First touch more self destructive than Reams on a keyboard.
I couldn't foresee how quickly the wheels are coming off. The team spirit was very good only a month or so ago, and it makes me wonder whether there's something going on in the dressing room. Maybe not, the players just aren't good enough, although only a couple of weeks ago Katrien was telling us that the scouts "really know what they're doing". But at the moment the comparison to last season seems valid.
That's pretty fair. Very astute as always Dick; and very fair. It is a bit of a crunch week ahead already! That's part of the reason why you have to love Championship football.
Strange thing is that IF we had beaten Rotherham and drawn with Udders (both results were quite possible based on our performances in those games) then people would have said that it has been a very good start to the season. At this stage of the season, a team's form can be very ephemeral.
The trouble is, even if we play well, like we did against Rotherham, we've got no cutting edge. A bit like a golfer hitting the green in regulation figures then 3 or 4-putting.
I agree with Forest, we have no cutting edge. Watt and Vetokele really out of form. Makienok injured and not the answer anyway. Ahearne- Grant and Kennedy not ready. Reza injured and not the answer. Blackburn showed us what could be done with a good goal scorer, Rhodes.
Albino- Leaburn, amazing i said this to the Mrs at the West Ham game and ever since. His so tall there is a delay from his brain telling his legs what to do
fFHB has it right IMO. This has all the hallmarks of something up in the dressing room. I praised GL's man management and now it's needed more than ever. Was there any more credence to the Watt/JBG bust up that was touched upon?
Cutting edge (or lack of) was always going to be the problem this season. Igor has turned into Marvin Sordell, & Watt has turned into Luke Varney MK 2. It is pointless complaining about the players at Charlton, though. The scouting and recruitment has been proven, time and again under Douche, to be utterly ****. Occasionally on Twitter the RD defenders will riposte with " what about JBG then" as if the Icelander scores 20 a season and dominates every game. The guy is a talented but inconsistent lightweight.....Robert Lee was ten times the player JBG is.
What we need is the type of central defender who can easily handle players like Rhodes. Think of anyone? I suppose they usually cost money.
