Like I said, each persons definition is different. I have stated mine - World class is being one of the top players in your position in the world, all of those players were at their peaks.

As for your Lampard comment, afraid it's you who should get real - 2nd in the Balloon d'or 2005 (actually named in the world XI at that time too which would back up your definition of world class), tons of silverware at the highest level and the Premier League's highest goal scorer from midfield.

Who even said he was? Your point is invalid, you're comparing players who peaked at different times. By that Logic there are only 11 world class players to have ever played football and Henry for example is the only world class striker to ever play in the Premier League because he was better than anyone else.

Messi > Aguero. Doesn't mean Aguero isn't world class.

Not really. I never said any of those eight were world class.

If you read my post, i.e. what I read rather than what you'd like to think I wrote, I was talking about the players who were "amongst our best players ever under SAF". Unless you are now claiming Utd are the world (in which case you need to change your user name to London's Only ;)) I fail to see how you make the link to Utd's best players all being world class players?

Henry and Raul where not in the same class as RVN as a striker.

RVNs goals to game ratio at the highest level in Europe is streets ahead of both players, that's why he won 3 Champions League golden boots, and was the record goal scorer across Europe for a full decade!

Henry was a flat track bully who couldn't cut the mustard in the Champions League, he doesn't even average a goal every 2 games in Europe. So whilst he was a very good player, he wasn't in RVNs class.

And as for Drogba being World class, do me a favour! This is a striker who only twice scored more than 12 league goals in 8 years in the Premier League, and who's goals to games ratio for Chelsea is about a goal every 2.5 games. That's piss poor for a so called world class striker, playing in a side at the top or near the top of the table. This is why 30 million was wasted on Shevchenko, and 50 on Torres, because Drogba was never good enough to score goals week in week out

Henry was absolute class Shergs. RvN was a better striker in the ours sense but Henry was incredible at his best.

As for flat track bully, remember that goal he scored against us, flicks it up, swivels and then wow, one of the best goals I've seen scored against us.

He also doesn't have a great record in Europe because he played for Arsenal, who have a poor record in Europe. At Barcelona he was one of many players who had to play second fiddle to Messi.

Henry would have been a great fit at United during RvN time.

Have to agreed tbh. RVN was a better goalscorer, but Henry was by far a superior all round player. Only player to average 30+ goals and assists every season he played in the PL, and would have scored much more in Europe if Arsenal had a decent European pedigree at the time.

I know most (if not all) Utd fans disagree with me on this, but I always thought RVN was more a flat track bully, and held us back as much as he pushed us forwards. He was missing against Leverkusen, Porto and Milan in the CL when we really needed a goal, and we underperformed in the league as the team spent too much time making goals for him and not enough time actually winning games as a team.

Would have both ahead of Drogba tho'

Cherry picking out the odd great moment from Henry against a top side, doesn't make up for a whole career of underperforming against top teams.

Why do you think Arsenal under performed in Europe whilst he was there? After all it wasn't the Arsenal we see nowadays, it was the invincible team who matched us domestically for years. So he wasn't playing for a side who where significantly worse than RVN was playing for.

They underperformed because there best player and talisman Henry regularly got found out against the very best defenders at European level. Henry needed space to be seen at his best, and he didn't get that against the top sides.

Had RVN played for that Arsenal side he'd of been just as prolific in Europe, as he was for us. Give RVN a sniff at goal and he takes it, where as Henry always needed a lot more chances.

Even internationally, where Henry was clearly playing for a far better team than RVN, his goals to games ratio was a good way short of RVNs. So you can't use the teams Henry played for as an excuse to why he didn't score as many.

He didn't play second fiddle to Messi at Barcelona, that's just the easy excuse to say. First of all in 3 seasons at Barcelona in only one of those seasons he made the first team consistently, the other 2 he was regularly on the bench. And secondly the year Henry did play, it was Samuel Eto'o who was the main striker, and the player who scored the most goals in that team that season. Messi played on the right, and Henry on the left, with Eto'o through the middle. So if anything it was Eto'o who Henry was playing 2nd fiddle to, as Eto'o was occupying Henry's favoured central position, not Messi.

Whilst I accept Henry's record is still very impressive, he wasn't a world class player, as he was never at any stage in his career the best striker in world football. His record in Europe and Internationally proves this.

Yep, loved RVN but he was around at a time we were struggling (compared with what came before and after). We were fairly slow and ponderous.

When he moved to Madrid and we went with a pacier more direct and interchanging attack, we became the best team in Europe.

In a way, I see the sale of van Persie having a similar effect down the line.

Do you remember when he first came to england and was just aboutbhitting double figures. He was talked about as some sort of tank who drove Chelsea on. Didn't Frank the fatso outscore him often enough?

He was a big target man who bullied a few defenders. Except Jonny Evans who floored him of course. When O say bullied, I mean in the same way Costa does...... Once someone stands up to him. He usually breaks down...

Don't get me wrong, RVN was superb but O don't think he was exactly what we needed at the time. An Henry type would have been insane for us too.

Two very different strikers but two of the best. One a pure goal machine and the other a one man team.
