This has just come through on Sky,

Done Deal: Nottingham Forest have signed midfielder Jonathan Greening from Fulham on a three-year contract.

.....might he have an impact on Forest's promotion prospects? weren't we looking at him?

Why is everybody obssessed with Jonathan Greening?!?! He's ok, but he hardly stood out in any team, although granted he was one of the better players in the Fulham squadat the end of last season. We have Evans, Koren, Bullard, McKenna and Cairney we wouldn't have needed him; Koren, Bullard and (probably) Cairney are better players anyway. I also imagine his wage is pretty high if he had to drop down to the Championship.

Certainly nothing to be jealous about my friend!

We tried to get him on loan in January, but Fulham wouldn't let him go.

And yes, we should be jealous. :emoticon-0132-envy:

I thought I remembered correctly we were after him. I am not so bothered myself about us not signing a particular player, but I don't want our potential rivals signing 'em up ;)

Let's not kid ourselves Greening is a better player than Cairney or Evans or Harper. With him and Koren we might have had a good midfield pairing, who knew each other quite well from their Baggies days. I've not see much of this Mckenna but the other 3 have a big year a head. I really wanna see them progress and prove me wrong. Greening is a great addition to the Forest team.

Should we ? Forest are another club who have lost more than have come in. I just dont see Greening as any better
than what we have already. But as always time will tell.

Would of been great for us, proven championship player. Would of been an improvement on Harper!

In answer to the title of the thread; no, I'm happy with the midfielders we have got. For all the Harper bashers out there, if he has a good pre-season this year without injury, we might see a much better player, didn't think he was that bad anyway as it stands, last year he was lugging round a gammy foot most of the season. I have a feeling Evans will be much more influential next season for us than Greening for Forest, Greening is getting on now and has arguably underachieved his whole career.

He's only 32, he was instrumental in getting the Baggies promoted, he has won player of the season at decent clubs and also made the PFA team of the season, he's a class act and he will probably be Forest's best player next season. I like Evans, but he won't be our player of the season and I'd swap him for Greening, I'd swap him for Bullard too.

Yes we should be jealous, but equally it depends what they're paying him. If someone turned round and gave £100k/w to have say Modric in the Championship we should be jealous of them having the player but not about the overall situation.

And we were in for Greening again this summer as well. When I put the thread on about the big 5 not being in the budget asking if we'd missed out on anyone due to wages a radio clip was linked to. In that clip AP said Danns and Greening were players who'd become too expensive for us. (whereas in January Fulham didn't want to let him go)

He'll be on a decent wage, that's for sure. Greening is undoubtedly a fantastic midfielder at Championship level, and would have been great for us, but I think we have a sufficient central midfield to be going on with at the minute.

I'm surprised he didn't stay - I thought Martin Jol might have wanted a bit of strength in depth for this upcoming Europa League campaign (which started 2 weeks ago :emoticon-0112-wonde)

They would have made a great central midfield in fairness <ok>

Don't agree on this one, Greening might have been good a couple seasons back but I'd even take Jimmy over him despite everything. Think Forest are making a mistake going for the likes of Greening and Boateng, could end up very short in midfield, that said I don't know if they actually signed the Boat

True, on form, Bullard is a much, much better player. Greening isn't broken though.

I don't think it's a massive loss. He would have been a decent signing but he's not a massive difference maker. He's a decent cog in a well oiled machine though. Fulham aren't in a position to let really good players go so he's not all that.

Greening has not done it for ages. If he was that good Fulham would have kept him. Dont think there is much to choose between Greening and Olifinjana to be fair.

As for Bullard ? That ship now looks to have sailed. Dont see anyone taking Bullard on now. So its Hull or bust for JB>

Had to laugh when i heard that QPR had pulled out of the DJ Campbell transfer. Surely he cannot be that expensive ?

All QPR have signed so far is Free Agent Boothroyd and sick note Dyer. Even Colin is moaning at the lack of investment.
